SUMMARY

The discussion centers on sourcing pure, highly doped semiconductor wafers, specifically a piece measuring approximately 7 cm x 7 cm x 1 cm. Participants recommend visiting surplus silicon dealers, particularly Nova Wafers located in Mound, Texas, for physical purchases. Additionally, lab supply houses are suggested as alternative sources. The conversation also touches on the potential contradiction in the terms "pure" and "highly doped" regarding semiconductor materials.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of semiconductor materials and their properties
  • Familiarity with the concept of doping in semiconductors
  • Knowledge of surplus material sourcing
  • Awareness of physical versus online purchasing methods
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of silicon wafers and their applications
  • Explore the process of semiconductor doping and its implications
  • Investigate local lab supply houses for semiconductor materials
  • Learn about the surplus market for electronic components and materials
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, hobbyists, and researchers interested in semiconductor materials, particularly those seeking to acquire physical semiconductor wafers for experimental or educational purposes.

I do not know if this question relates to this division and would appreciate if it would be moved to proper division.

I want to buy a piece of fine, pure, highly doped semiconductor with dimensions approximately:
7 cm X 7 cm X 1 cm (2 in. X 2 in. X 1/2 in.) It supposed to be just fine and well polished piece of material without any electronic components. In which type of stores it is best to look for?
No online trade or stores please.

Here's a surplus silicon dealer. If you don't want to order online, you can hoof it to Mound, Texas:

Otherwise, try lab supply houses. No online trade, huh? Trying to evade the NSA or some kind of embargo?

cool ... I didn't know one could buy blank wafers ... I assumed it was all inhouse with chip manufacturers

haha that thought also went through my mind

BTW .. isn't pure and highly doped a bit of a contradiction ?

Yah. The operative word about the wafers was that they were 'surplus' to the chip makers needs.
