Which View to Show for a Horizontal Cut?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on determining the appropriate view to display when making a horizontal cut in technical drawings. It clarifies that for a vertical cut, the upper view is shown, as indicated by the arrows on the cut line which dictate the direction of the section view. The user seeks guidance on how to represent a horizontal cut, specifically its shape and drawing technique, as their reference material lacks this information. A link to a tutorial on section drawings is provided for further assistance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of technical drawing conventions
  • Familiarity with section views and cut lines
  • Basic skills in interpreting engineering diagrams
  • Knowledge of horizontal and vertical cuts in drafting
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Technical Drawing Section Views" for comprehensive guidelines
  • Study "How to Draw Section Views in CAD" for practical applications
  • Explore "Understanding Cut Lines in Engineering Drawings" for clarity on cut line usage
  • Review "Horizontal Cuts in Technical Drawings" for specific examples and techniques
USEFUL FOR

Students in engineering or architecture, technical illustrators, and professionals involved in creating or interpreting technical drawings will benefit from this discussion.

Homework Statement

I don't understand the cuts or the views. For example if we make a horisontal cut, which view we should show?

The Attempt at a Solution

I have in the book an example that if we make a vertical cut we show the upper view (view seen from upside down.

The arrows on the cut line show the direction the section view is show from. We choose the arrow direction so the section view shows the information we need it to.

So I have to draw a section, right? Could you tell me what its shape will be or how should I draw it? In my book there is no information about this. Or could you send me a link that gives more information?
