SUMMARY

High grade ceramic and carbon are utilized in resistors due to their specific properties that enhance performance. High grade ceramic provides high chemical purity, low porosity, and minimal flaws, making it an excellent insulator surrounding the conducting carbon. While carbon serves as a conductor, it is less conductive than metals like copper or aluminum, which is why it is paired with ceramic to optimize resistor functionality.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of resistor materials and their properties
  • Knowledge of electrical conductivity and insulation
  • Familiarity with high grade ceramic manufacturing processes
  • Basic principles of electronics and circuit design
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the manufacturing processes of high grade ceramic materials
  • Explore the electrical properties of carbon as a conductor
  • Learn about the applications of resistors in electronic circuits
  • Investigate the performance comparison between carbon and metal conductors
USEFUL FOR

Electrical engineers, materials scientists, and anyone involved in the design and manufacturing of electronic components will benefit from this discussion.

High grade ceramic usually implies high chemical purity, low porosity and relatively free of flaws (microcracks), in this case for use as an insulator around the conducting carbon. While conducting, carbon is not as conducting as copper or aluminum.
