I have a problem in understanding the very basic concept of Structural Analysis. Ironically, I can do the calculations swiftly! But when it comes to theories, I haven't got a clue. So, what is transverse stress, poisson ratio and all that? I know that many people would ask me to go and Google it myself but I would rather have someone explain it to me so that when I have a question or two, I can directly ask. Thanks.

I wouldn't expect help from someone if I don't make the effort to help my self. Make an attempt and come back with questions. This is very basic stuff.

If you want to experience transverse stress for yourself, take a tube of toothpaste, remove the cap and squeeze.
