Ryan, a volunteer instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, is building a small wind tunnel for interactive aviation lessons. He initially considered a 6" fan but switched to a 9" fan for better airflow, planning an 8"x8" test section and a 10" square diffuser. Discussions emphasized the importance of having the test section smaller than the fan diameter to ensure uniform flow and effective visualization of airflow patterns. A water tunnel was suggested as an alternative for clearer flow visualization, but Ryan prefers the wind tunnel for its transportability and hands-on experience for students. Overall, the design aims to engage students with practical demonstrations of aerodynamics principles.
