I only use a dictionary because there are words I simply do not know. This one was tough because I am well aware of that word but in another language. I guess it is an emigration; kind of.

I think this is the first time the answer was I word I've never seen before. I had to Google to see if those 5 letters really were a word.

As mentioned, it is very likely an emigrant from my point of view and an immigrant from yours.
Google: Steinkrug. More common, however, is the word Tongefäß = pot made of clay or Tonkrug.

When I think something might be a word that would be a good guess but am not sure it is actually a word I just enter it. If it is not a word Wordle will reject it and I lost nothing. This happens more in Spanish than in English in my case.

A good first word helps.
It also helps that my nephew has a collection of these.

I'm sure this comparison has been made a zillion times before, but it seems just as relevant.

I can totally relate to Wesley's utter bewilderment in The Game:

That's not a fair comparison. Wordle takes only a couple of minutes a day and not 1,440. And, personally, I use it to learn vocabulary.

Yeah. I wasn't really thinking in terms of the time, just in terms of the bizarre wildfire-spreading popularity - particularly the proclivity for sharing it (I see it a lot on Facebook too).

It's cool; it's just ... a phenomenon, worthy of note.

Wordle Alert

To all PF Wordle aficionados outside the USA who have had non-US English education and those in the US who think they know everything about five-letter words:

I just found out that RALPH is a valid Wordle entry. I looked it up because I only knew of its use as a first name, e.g. Ralph Fiennes, Ralph Lauren, Ralph Waldo Emerson, etc. According to the Urban Dictionary, its top definition is a verb used as "Another word for vomiting" as in "I ralphed at the party last night." Not surprisingly, my browser's spellchecker, which set for English-US, flagged it as incorrect. Such callous disregard for what constitutes a legitimate word in the English language makes one ralph.

Since "HOWDY" and "STEIN" were a solution, I expect any nonsense.

The next stolen word. First, they took biology, then they took Berlin. Are there even five-letter combinations that are NOT words?

Thanks everyone!

Odd thing is, although I eliminated all but 155 words using the patterns, the solution was not amongst those 155 words. Guessing this means that someone used an "accepted" word which is not amongst the "solution" set of words. Either that or I used boogered logic in my spreadsheet. Wouldn't be the first time.

Stranger still is that upon post examination, using my standard seed word, I would have gotten it in two even had I no help. So, never mind.

For me it was a good match between the 10 letters in my first two words and today's solution.

That was probably me. I ran out of words that I recognised and had to try some other combinations of letters.
