I mean speck? Seriously? That's a German word.
This is not the only meaning of speck though. Consider, for example, the meaning of "a speck of dust".

β¬›β¬›β¬›πŸŸ¨πŸŸ¨ [BATON]
β¬›β¬›πŸŸ¨β¬›πŸŸ¨ [DINER] left are: CORNY HORNY PRONG WRONG CRONY
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

This lucky streak of mine is becoming ridiculous. Or is it just luck?

I could have tried GAWCY (as suggested by my program) to eliminate candidates. But I really wanted to see what the potential of just guessing can be.

Between the 5 words left:
  • I doubted NYT used CORNY and surely not HORNY, so they were out;
  • CRONY seems to be a weird word, so not really on my list.

Between the 2 left, I would have bet anything that WRONG has already been used because it is so popular. I almost checked on an online list of past answers but restricted myself from doing so because I wanted to test my instincts. And I got it in 3.

Checking it afterward, WRONG has already been used but so was CORNY.

FORGO had already been used, so that kind of negates the idea of ”seeming more likely” being used first. At least in this case.

Hence the "being slightly lucky on this one" statement.

I understand that one word was not better than the other. I just needed to "pick one". This is the method I chose for "picking one" instead of using a quarter or going alphabetically. I do not consider it better or worse than any other method. I just needed to "pick one" method to "pick one". My brain cannot "just pick one" like you claim to do, it has to go through a process.

β¬›β¬›πŸŸ©β¬›β¬› [FRITZ] 61 left
β¬›πŸŸ¨β¬›β¬›β¬› [LENGS] filter word; 3 left: CHIDE JUICE WAIVE
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 [JUICE] The trifecta: possible answer, filter word, and the more pleasing and appealing to my eyes!

I have now upgraded my script to include past answers. Without this, there would have been 113 left at the first guess (same filter word suggestion though) and 7 with the second one. This way, I would have most likely made it in 4.

Why the chosen first guess? The script now gives me one of the possible answers as a first guess (not including past answers). Therefore, having it in 1 guess is a possibility. Through the last few trials with the script, the first guess seems to be irrelevant to the outcome, especially with known past answers (as demonstrated here).

What criteria does the algorithm use for picking your first guess among all others?

I don't think proper names are valid words. OTOH, [RALPH] can be a verb, albeit slang.
