I tend to use crane, pilot, mushy but I do mix it up sometimes just because the same thing every day gets a bit boring :)

I hear ya. I don’t participate everyday. (Especially not on the days where I fail completely  )

EDIT2: Isn't it kind of demoralizing that a foreigner sometimes beat you? :woot:
EDIT3: Without using any tools or help at all?! Not even a coin flip!
But coin flipping is exactly how you beat us! I found it fascinating that it happens so often. Didn't I post a while back how often? I believe is was about 20% of the time.

Yeah well, I was of course joking. OTOH sometimes I make some completely scatterbrained guesses only a non-native speaker would make, so I think it more or less averages out in the end.

EDIT: And my written English may look pretty but if you heard my Danglish, acccentuating the wrong syllables of common words, you'd probably cringe.

EDIT2: Hah. I like this one:

"Can I borrow the toilet?" ("May I use the toilet?")

Used a pretty nifty system to get the answer (if requested I will make a thread on it, pro tip start off with "ADIEU" as it covers 1 consonant and 4 vowels)

Not showing your work when you are failing? Wouldn't that fall under the "cheating" category?

Well, ouch, yeah. Then again you never know when I'm being sarcastic.

Made a stupid in guess #2, but I'm still pretty satisfied with the result:

Wordle 1,490 4/6

⬛⬛🟩🟨⬛ PARSE 3 left + 6 previous = 9 total. Wordlebot says there are 13.
⬛🟩🟩⬛🟩 TORUS 0 left + 0 previous = 0 total. Wordlebot says there is 1.
The long list has 38 to choose from.
⬛🟩🟩⬛🟩 WORKS 0 left. 35 left on the long list. I start sweating....
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Phew!

I had to look it up also. Mainly I think because I mixed it up with Dr. Seuss's Lorax.
If you were to put 'slow' in front of it, I would have recognized it. Odd how my brain works sometimes.

ps. Not sure if anyone else noticed, but Wordlebot switched back to using SLATE as its seed word yesterday. It had been using CRANE for quite some time.

We've been through this but the thread is too long to expect a new "combatant" to go through it all. I prefer IRATE (and I know others like that one too), AUREI, and (I think) I've had luck with RADIO.

I'll get better at posting my failures although sometimes I just don't get around to doing Wordle at all.

Hah. I tried to feed LORIS to my program. I'll have to make an exception for when I don't want it to guess from a specified word list but just do a dictionary lookup. Then again maybe I should just resume what I have left of my life. I'll search for it under the nearest box of cables....

THAT IS SO COOL OH MY GOD (genuinely aspire to have the skill to cheat on wordle like that)

Looks like my laptop when I'm trying to do web dev except I don't actually know what I'm doing so I'm typing random commands and installing random things in the hope my website magically deploys at some point

I fear you're too easily impressed. It's a mess and totally indicative of way way too much free time and boredom.

I tried to set up a web page myself a while ago and was actually astonished at the amount of commerce and tinkering involved. And don't even get me started on upkeep.

I genuinely found "writing" (read: mostly copy/pasting other's code) a PHP application web server was less (and more fun) "work".

Or maybe I just don't meet enough nerds who have a lot of time on their hands :)
I fear I'm one of the rare few who "wastes their time" doing things like this just for fun. Though in my case it's more like "huh, what if I applied gauss's magnetism law to a klein bottle embedded in a 4D hyperspace instead of something normal like everyone else in the world? That sounds cool". Is it worth writing thousands of lines of C++ just to cheat on Wordle? Absolutely not. But is it really, really cool? Absolutely yes!!!

Yes, it is a pain. We ended up settling with Astro as the language (almost the same as HTML) and then using Vercel to deploy the github repo as an app. Bit of a nightmare but we got there in the end :)
Please please please don't ever write a PHP server again that sounds downright painful haha

Hah! Yeah, I'm sure I'm no match for you. I envy both your brilliance and your youth! Take this advice: Stop aging somewhere in the middle of your twenties. :woot:

I wont say it's mostly downhill from there, that would be way too cynical; even for me. But one you day you "meet" a "kid" on the internet that just makes you feel old and stupid! Relish it and savor it for as long as you can!

EDIT: Here comes my language "OCD".... It should have been "I envy you your [...]" shouldn't it?

Advice taken, that's a good one, I'll cherish it! But don't feel that way: I don't know a line of C++, nor did I learn physics particularly quickly (I've known what I wanted to do since I was... like.. 6? So I've had time to learn things, and spend tons of time applying concepts in the stupidest way possible just because it seems cool :D)!

I admit to cheating in the last guess although there were really only 2 available choices left, and for obvious reasons it couldn't be TITTY. Thus only TIZZY remained. But as I'm not completely sure my vocabulary is up to the task I ran wcheat:

@sbrothy I tried hard mode and I can confirm that I hate it :D. Unfortunately it is also simultaneously a fun challenge so I shall be keeping it until I'm sick of it :-p.

After guess no.3 I just ended up trying random combinations of letters that seemed like they would make a word until something worked. No idea what it means, but to be honest half the time on wordle I end up having to search up the word afterwards so that's not unusual:

I often end up doing the same thing. One can see there's only one posibility, no matter how nonsensical the word might look and it often ends up being correct but, as you say, one has to look it up afterwards.

It reminds of that Sherlock Holmes quote. You know the one:

"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

Yeah, itis sometimes some surprising limitations, but they usually make sense. But those fishing expeditions don't work anymore as you have to use the found letters, and "annoyingly" those correctly placed. :woot:

Ooooh a wiki on letter frequency!

This has maybe  probably definitely been done before but now I have access to letter frequency I sort of want to write some code to figure out the optimum wordle guesses based on what you've guessed and what yellow/green letter you have got oh and also there's different code for hard vs normal mode... shouldn't be so difficult that I struggle a ton but also not easy enough that its boring... oh and maybe I use tampermonkey so then I can also just like run the code and sit back and relax and watch it do wordle how cool would that be?

EDIT: upon more thought I have somehow only just realised that my fun idea is literally writing code to cheat for me... oh well I'll do it anyway for the fun of it, and once I'm satisfied it works I'll go back to normal wordle again :D

No LEGO is just great- I cannot imagine it losing it's charm when people become adults :D it's an experience of it's own!

Programming I feel like is like a video game - at least for me whose projects are held together with love and hope and not good programming but we will ignore that every time you fix a bug, add something new, get something working... it's sort of like completing a quest before the end goal of the journey: the final project XD

I feel, especially with C++, that I write a class (read: a black box with some inputs and some outputs) and there I have a LEGO piece. If I write enough of them I suddenly have something pretty complex (although not always pretty), which fits together like - yeah LEGO. Depending on what I wanted I end up with a wxWidgets app showing the Mandelbrot set, a program to cheat at Wordle, or a some GNU math thingy finding roots in 23rd degree polynomials because, yeah well... I really don't know....

Perhaps it's Javascript THREE and a 3D website. One never knows where it ends up because I seldom have a plan. And if I've got one it's usually like a military battle plan which doesn't survive meeting the enemy - whoever that is at the moment. :woot:
