Next step after first year physics?

I've noticed that Harvard Extension and other colleges seem to only offer one year of "physics" courses in their course offering books. After the first year, what is a logical next step for someone wanting to learn more? Favorite physics topic is electricity, all applications of it.

    Home Improvement Project & PV=nRT

I agree about the blocking the flow part. I went in there with Great Stuff, which is that spray-on expanding foam sold in hardware stores and sealed every substantial crevice I could find. Somehow, a draft still comes up! Not as bad as it was though.

    Home Improvement Project & PV=nRT

I live in an attic apartment and have been suffering a problem lately. Convection seems to be pushing (nasty kitchen smelling) air up to my apartment from my neighbors who live below me in the same building. This nasty air current primarily seems to be coming from a specific crawl space inside...

Turning career toward physics with a non-physics major

FYI - There are a lot of wrong assumptions on some of the replies on here. Please read the OP and refrain from taking cues from the replies. Thanks in advance!

Russ Watters, Don't patronize me. Thanks, Gauss PS - If you read the OP, you would know that I am evaluating career paths.

Turning career toward physics with a non-physics major

Thank you very much for the helpful response. I used the link you provided and goes to exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. You're right about admissions being a good place for this question. I think I will email a few admissions departments for physics masters/PhD programs...

Turning career toward physics with a non-physics major

Hi Everyone, I'm in my early '30s and majored in liberal arts. In doing so, I took a couple years of physics as electives toward the end of undergrad. Between then and now, I've developed a strong interest in physics and it seems to be the one subject, out of every school and life subject...

Why does or doesn't a rainbow form?

When light enters some pieces of glass from the air, such as a magnifying glass or window, rainbows usually don't form. But when light enters a prism, rainbows form. Why do rainbows form in the prism, but not in the magnifying glass or window?(This is my own personal curiosity and because I...

Force vs Time Graph: Impulse & Momentum

Regarding the question here, https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/force-vs-time-graph-impulse.665936/ Would it be correct to say that the area under the plotted line equals momentum if the initial momentum were zero? (This is NOT a homework question. I am posting here since this was the...

Are T Cells Antigen Presenting Cells?

This may be debatable and/or depend on recent research. I want your opinion and evidence for that.

Coffee cup, bomb calorimeter: Open, closed, or isolated?

Is a coffee cup usually considered to be a closed system? Why or why not? Does it matter that steam or hot coffee may be evaporating? (I think the steam is usually considered to be an insignificant amount of matter, allowing classification to be a closed system, but am unsure.) Is a bomb...

Do magnetic fields tend to align? (moving charge & other B)

When a moving proton travels through a magnetic field, doe's it's magnetic field (that it's giving off) naturally align with the outside magnetic field (due to a magnet or something in the environment)?

Why are electrons generally further out than protons in the Van Allen Belt?

Why doesn't this reaction use an E2 mechanism?

tert-butyl bromide + MeOK in MeOH -----> I would think that MeOK would dissociate in solution making it MeO- which would be strong enough to yank a proton off tert-butyl bromide and initiate an E2 reaction. Where am I going wrong? PS - I am a tutor who hasn't done organic chemistry for a...

When is an Elimination 2 reaction more likely to take place?

When is an Elimination 2 reaction more likely to take place than any other reaction (more likely than SN1, SN2, E1)? Details and examples welcome. I'm reviewing this for a student I'm tutoring and seem to have forgotten what makes E2 happen over the other reactions. Thanks!
