Flat Plate External Free Convection Problem

I have actually had a chance to work through this now. I think I see what you mean. If you like you could perhaps have a look at the attachment and see if you think I have interpreted this correctly (cooled plate). This is way more complex than I expected and its easy to get this sort of...

Flat Plate External Free Convection Problem

Yes its for a research project. We have a flat plate evaporator on a roof, it is a micro-channel style heat exchanger. This is then used as part of a heat pump for hot water generation. The heat transfer from the evaporator is affected both by radiation from the sun and convective heat transfer...

Flat Plate External Free Convection Problem

Hi Jlefevre, Yes if i use the magnitude of the temperature difference i get the same answer but the Raleigh number is positive. I have got a heat transfer coeff however this seems a bit low. That's good enough for now i think.

Flat Plate External Free Convection Problem

I am trying to calculate heat transfer from an inclined flat plate under free convection conditions. I am referring to Fundamentals of heat and mass transfer (Incropera / DeWitt). The equations and a spreadsheet which can be used to find a solution can be found at...

What is the relationship between wet bulb temperature and rain temperature?

Yes but i am not sure how that answers the question. This means that the majority of conventional rain is the "WARM RAIN DROPS" category. This is rain that “is above the current surface temperature". The site gives a way of approximating the wet bulb temperature, but it does not lead me to...

What is the relationship between wet bulb temperature and rain temperature?

If the external DBT is 20 deg C and it is 50% RH, then it rains, what temperature is the liquid rain? I am trying to calculate the heat transfer from a surface when it is raining. I have a set of climate data which will give me external ambient DBT, RH and precipitation. So how can i predict...

    Mathcad 14.0 - Displaying / Printing

I'm starting to think maybe the problems i am having are because of a print driver issue. I just pdf'ed the attached document and clearly some of the text is on top of each other. Then when i tried to re print the document i got this error message repeatedly.

    Mathcad 14.0 - Displaying / Printing

I am new to Mathcad and using it is redefining my idea of hell. All i want to do is type some equations and then print it out. Nothing more sinister. When i type the equations in some times they go red and i get a message appear like "a name is required here" i couldn't care less about...

The question is: Where does the blasius friction factor formula come from?

"blasius" Friction factor I am trying to find out if the formula below can be used to estimate the friction factor for turbulent flows with Reynolds number around 100,000, in an air system. f = 0.079*RE^-0.25 I have not been able to find this exact formula anywhere other than on this...

Reynolds & Velocity: Finding Mean & Max Velocities

Hi, I have been given a couple of questions in which i have to draw a velocity profile in a pipe etc. We are asked to find the mean & maximum velocitys, velocity pressure & pressure drop. the only 2 parameters we are given are the RE (Reynolds number) & pipe size. We are also told that the...
