News What is the recent tribute song released for the Orlando nightclub shooting?

The screening was a requirement for employment as a security guard. Had he failed, he could have gone out and bought those same weapons without any psychological screening at all.

News What is the recent tribute song released for the Orlando nightclub shooting?

I was moved by this speech by the Lieutenant Governor of Utah - male, straight, conservative, Republican. Seriously, it's worth watching:

Music RIP Prince: Music Legend Gone Too Soon at Age 57

Ouch. This one really hurts. Just last night I was out on a training walk/hike listening to music. The song playing on my favorite part of the trail: Kiss, by Prince. I thought I was alone out there and I was singing it out loud, and got caught by a couple of women who came around the corner...

Random Thoughts Part 5: Time to Split Again

Keep your tank full, Zooby. No electricity = no gas pumps. And keep drinking water in your car, along with blankets and food. Also: if a big earthquake hits, bridges and overpasses might be unsafe to cross or go under. If you're at work when a big one hits, is there a route home that...

Can a cat become infected with a bacteria or virus from rat?

A cat I had long ago got sick with "Songbird Fever", which is the common name for salmonellosis in cats: http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/digestive/c_ct_salmonellosis# She was only 2 or 3 months old, and became very, very sick. But she did survive thanks to emergency veterinary care.

Is grading on a scale a flawed method for evaluating student performance?

Yes! The curve was always centered around 2.6 to 2.9, I think (it's been a while), so some always failed. In my senior year, it wasn't unusual for the failing students to be first-year grad students from chemistry, geophysics, engineering...there were *lots* of them in the senior classes...

Music Stay Stylish & In-the-Know: Follow Trends in Fashion, Music & Food

Wooly, I don't even know what it is. (I do listen to new music though. For nearly every song I have ever heard, I can only listen to it N times, after which I simply can't stand it. Most of the time N is less than 20. This forces me to seek new music constantly.)
