In summary, if you receive an unjustified warning or ban on a platform or forum, you should first carefully read the guidelines or terms of service. If you still believe it is unjustified, you can reach out to the support team or moderators to explain your situation and provide evidence. Most platforms and forums allow users to appeal a warning or ban, but the process and requirements may vary. You should provide any evidence that supports your case when questioning a warning or ban, such as screenshots or links. The time it takes for a warning or ban to be lifted varies, so it's best to check with the support team or moderators. If your appeal is denied, you can try providing additional evidence, but ultimately it's important to respect the platform

Never really had a reason to question a decision by the forum mentors, they are usually spot on. But how would I go about it?

Discussion of specific moderator actions should be taken up privately with the mentors, either by PM or the "report" mechanism.
