average distance form earth=384,403,000meters. Multiply by 2π=2,412,743,158meters
orbital period=27days7hours43.1minutes=114,186sec

This gives 2,412,743,158/114,186=21,130meters/sec linear speed.
Wikipedia says 1,021meters/sec

Where's the mistake?

1 day is 86400 seconds, so 27 days can't be 114186 seconds.

Cheers. Was hoping it was my mistake.

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...
