What is Wormhole: Definition and 112 Discussions

A wormhole (or Einstein–Rosen bridge or Einstein–Rosen wormhole) is a speculative structure linking disparate points in spacetime, and is based on a special solution of the Einstein field equations.
A wormhole can be visualized as a tunnel with two ends at separate points in spacetime (i.e., different locations, different points in time, or both).
Wormholes are consistent with the general theory of relativity by Einstein, but whether wormholes actually exist remains to be seen. Many scientists postulate that wormholes are merely projections of a fourth spatial dimension, analogous to how a two-dimensional (2D) being could experience only part of a three-dimensional (3D) object.Theoretically, a wormhole might connect extremely long distances such as a billion light years, or short distances such as a few meters, or different points in time, or even different universes.

What would happen if you tossed one end of a wormhole into the other end?

Seems like maybe they would just combine into one hole with no end, and the 4-d space between them would shrink to nothing. Then the whole thing would just disappear. But something bothers me about the idea of the space between them shrinking to nothing. Seems like something else might happen...

I Know Why We Will Never Come Across A Wormhole

WORMHOLES EXIST AND DONT EXIST they exist and can be accessed, but the postulate and justification on a wormhole is in a 3-d visual. in a 4-d visual- which our universe is, the curvature of a single space-time object will have its own curvature spot. on a 4-d scale. i can't visually show it...

Wormhole Physics: Can a Single Wormhole Have Multiple Mouths?

I have been reading up on wormholes and though I can't claim to understand every thing I've read there is one thing that I have to wonder about. from what I've read I understand that a wormhole has to have at least two mouths and that it is theoretically possible for the multiple mouths to be...

Can Uniform Relative Motion Turn a Wormhole into a Time Tunnel?

Consider a wormhole. Suppose its two mouths have no relative motion with each other. Therefore no time difference exists across its ends. It provides a mean to travel faster than "light in normal space". Imagine this wormhole to be at rest in frame "S" (say). If there is another...

Theoretically Possible: Opening a Wormhole to Another Location

I have been trying to prove a point to a friend that it is theoretically possible to open a wormhole to another location in the galaxy. he thinks it's possible but a wormhole wouldn't be stable to last long enough for sombody to travel through it. All i want to prove to my friend is that it is...

A Stable Wormhole: Exploring the Misnomer

Help me out here. I have trouble understanding the concept of a stable wormhole formed by having a black hole on one end, and a "white hole" made of exotic matter at the other end, forming a topological donut linking two regions of sapce. that all sounds great, but a blacj hole is a misnomer...
