All we can do to help the wounded and the families of the dead from the comfort of our homes is donate.
Nepal is already one of the poorest places on the planet with an nominal per capita income of just $730.
The area around Mount Everest is a hot-spot of geological activity therefore quakes are not exactly unexpected, however the locals are so poor that they simply do not have the money to build better constructions.

Not getting a break. Tough to watch.
Indeed it is.
In case anyone reading this thread is wondering, whether I myself donated or not, I did donate, more than half my family's daily income.
Again from the bottom of my heart, I would request everyone, to donate as much as you can for the people of Nepal.

1. What caused the earthquake in Nepal?

The earthquake in Nepal was caused by the sudden release of energy from tectonic plates shifting and sliding against each other. This type of earthquake, known as a "thrust earthquake", occurs when one tectonic plate is forced underneath another, creating a large amount of seismic activity.

2. How powerful was the earthquake in Nepal?

The earthquake in Nepal was measured at a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale. This makes it a major earthquake, capable of causing significant damage to infrastructure and buildings.

3. Is this earthquake related to previous earthquakes in Nepal?

Yes, this earthquake is related to previous earthquakes in Nepal. The Indian subcontinent and the Eurasian plate have been colliding for millions of years, creating the Himalayan mountain range. The region has a history of earthquakes, with the last major earthquake occurring in 2015.

4. What kind of damage can be expected from this earthquake?

The damage caused by this earthquake will depend on a variety of factors, such as the proximity to the epicenter, the strength of the structures in the affected area, and the population density. However, based on past earthquakes of similar magnitude, we can expect widespread destruction of buildings and infrastructure, as well as potential landslides and avalanches.

5. How can we help those affected by the earthquake in Nepal?

There are several ways to help those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Donating to reputable organizations that provide aid and support to the affected communities is one way to make a direct impact. Additionally, raising awareness and advocating for long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of earthquakes in vulnerable regions can also make a difference.
