Congratulations Mechanical Engineers

In summary, the conversation discusses the tendency to focus on the achievements and wealth of software tycoons, but overlook the tangible accomplishments of mechanical engineers. An example of this is the creation of the world's lightest mechanical watch using graphene. The conversation also mentions the impressive integration of mechanical enclosure design and high voltage PCB design, resulting in smaller, cheaper, and more reliable products. The process involves 3-D CAD models of the enclosure and PCB assemblies to optimize high voltage creepage and clearance distances. The initial prototypes were also 3-D printed, showcasing the talent of mechanical engineers.

People spend so much time drooling over the millions or even billions made by software tycoons and their sometimes very crappy software, that we may forget about the tangible accomplishments of mechanical engineers. Here is a beautiful example. Do you have more?

I can't post pictures of this because it's proprietary and a nice competitive advantage, but my company has done an amazing job of integrating mechanical enclosure design with high voltage PCB design to make our products smaller, cheaper and more reliable. It basically involves 3-D CAD models of the enclosure integrating with 3-D models of the PCB assemblies to optimize high voltage creepage and clearance distances while minimizing overall product size. Pretty amazing stuff to see, IMO.

And of course, the initial mechanical prototypes were 3-D printed, to help look for further optimizations... Gotta love those talented MEs (I'm on the EE side of these projects).
