Factor Fractional Expression

In summary, a factor fractional expression is an algebraic expression with fractions and variables that represents ratios or proportions in mathematical equations. To simplify it, factor and cancel out common terms. The most common operations used with these expressions are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They can be used to solve real-world problems and some tips for working with them include factoring, using the distributive property, and checking work. It is also important to follow the order of operations.

Factor [(a + b)^2]/4 - [a^2b^2]/9

Can someone get me started?

I would write the expression as the difference of squares:

\(\displaystyle \frac{(a+b)^2}{4}-\frac{a^2b^2}{9}=\left(\frac{a+b}{2}\right)^2-\left(\frac{ab}{3}\right)^2\)

Or, we could write:

\(\displaystyle \frac{(a+b)^2}{4}-\frac{a^2b^2}{9}=\frac{1}{36}\left(\left(3(a+b)\right)^2-(2ab)^2\right)\)

Now apply the difference of squares formula...:D

Great. I can take it from here.

What is a factor fractional expression?

A factor fractional expression is an algebraic expression that contains one or more fractions with variables in the numerator and/or denominator. These expressions are used to represent ratios or proportions in mathematical equations.

How do you simplify a factor fractional expression?

To simplify a factor fractional expression, factor both the numerator and denominator and then cancel out any common factors. This will result in a simplified expression that is easier to work with.

What are the common operations used with factor fractional expressions?

The most common operations used with factor fractional expressions are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These operations are used to manipulate and solve equations containing factor fractional expressions.

Can factor fractional expressions be used to solve real-world problems?

Yes, factor fractional expressions can be used to solve real-world problems, such as calculating proportions, finding percentages, and solving for unknown quantities in equations. They are a useful tool in many fields, including science, finance, and engineering.

What are some tips for working with factor fractional expressions?

Some tips for working with factor fractional expressions include factoring out common terms, using the distributive property to simplify equations, and always checking your work by plugging in values for the variables. It is also important to pay attention to the order of operations when simplifying these expressions.
