In summary, the conversation revolves around a question about calculating the genotypes of a family with a history of color blindness. The traits are determined to be recessive and not linked to any other trait. The use of a punnet square is suggested to solve the problem, but the individual asking the question is advised to provide their own attempt before seeking help.

ok i have this question for homework, can anyone help me?

A man's maternal grandmother had normal vision; his maternal grandfather was colour-blind;his mother is colour-blined;his father has normal vision. Calculate the genotypes of the two parents and grandparents mentioned? What type of vision has this man himself? His sister?

Thanks xD

You have to show us that have tried to solve the problem before we can help you.

Here a few questions to get you started:
Is colour blindness dominant or recessive, is heredity linked to any specific trait?
Can you do a punnet square for the maternal grandparent and the mother?

yea we use dat punnet square

Do you know if color-blind is a recessive or dominant trait and if it is linked to any other trait (i.e. the sex/X and Y chromosome)?

this information is crucial for the punnet square.

Colour blindness is a recessive trait and therefore a female colour blind must be homozygous recessive and have both XrXr. A normal woman will be either homozygous dominant or heterozygous (XRXR or XRXr)

Furthermore the gene is absent on the Y chromosome. So a colour blind man is XrY and a normal individual is XRY

You may want to redo the problem.

1. What is a genetics problem question?

A genetics problem question is a question that involves a hypothetical or real-life genetic scenario, and requires the use of scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills to find a solution.

2. How do I approach solving a genetics problem question?

To solve a genetics problem question, it is important to first read and understand the question carefully. Then, break down the problem into smaller parts and identify the relevant genetic principles and formulas that can be applied. Finally, use critical thinking and logical reasoning to arrive at a solution.

3. What are some common types of genetics problem questions?

Some common types of genetics problem questions include Punnett squares, inheritance patterns, genetic diseases, and pedigree analysis. These types of questions may involve determining genotypes, phenotypes, or probabilities of inheritance.

4. What are some tips for solving genetics problem questions?

Some helpful tips for solving genetics problem questions include practicing with different types of problems, using visuals such as Punnett squares, checking your work for errors, and seeking help from a teacher or tutor if needed.

5. How do genetics problem questions relate to real-life situations?

Genetics problem questions are designed to mimic real-life situations where understanding genetic concepts and solving problems is important. These types of questions can help scientists and medical professionals make informed decisions about genetic research, treatments, and disease prevention.
