In summary: But if you want to hear it, I'm sure you can find it on the internet, or something. But it's really not worth your time.So in summary, the conversation discussed various songs with science references in their lyrics, such as "The Sounds of Science" by Beastie Boys, "Race for the Prize" by Flaming Lips, "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" by The Beatles, "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby, "Lesson 6- The Lecture" by Jurassic 5, "Rocket Man" by Elton John, "Little Neutrino" by Klaatu, "Calling Occupants (of Interplanetary Craft)"

...in the context of songs.

Rules: songs must have some science type references in the lyrics (the relevant part of which could be posted...)

I'll start:

The Sounds of Science - Beastie Boys

Dropping science like when Galileo dropped his orange

Race for the Prize - Flaming Lips

Two scientists were racing
For the good of all mankind
Both of them side by side
So Determined
Locked in heated battle
For the cure that is their prize
But it's so dangerous
But they're determined

Theirs is to win
If it kills them
They're just humans
With wives and children

Upwards to the vanguard
Where the pressure is too high
Under the microscope
Hope against hope

Forging for the future
But to sarcrifice their lives
Both of them side by side
So determined

Theirs is to win
If it kills them
They're just humans
With wives and children

Theirs is to win
It will kill them
They're just humans
With wives and children

Wonderful World - Sam Cooke

Don't know much Biology
Don't know much about Science books
---------------------------------------

Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles

Joan was quizzical; studied pataphysical
Science in the home.
Late nights all alone with a test tube

She Blinded me with Science - Thomas Dolby

Lesson 6- The Lecture by Jurassic 5

Edit.
OK, let's begin!

Compound: A substance composed of two or more elements chemically combined in definite proportions by weight.
Mixture: Two or more substances that are not chemically united, such as air.
Solution: A uniform mixture of varying proportions of a solvent and a solute.

For many of our students, this is the lesson you've been waiting for.
Lesson... Six.
Left channel.
Right channel.
Hydrogen, H, +1.
Sodium, Na, +1.
Magnesium, Mg, +2.
Aluminum, Al, +3.
Potassium, K, +1.
Calcium, Ca, +2.
Chromium, Cr, +2, three, six.
Any physical difficulty with a record, or a turntable, is taken care of.
Do you think that Led Zeppelin and Frank Sinatra would go together?
Edit.
No.
Combinations of music.

Rocket Man - Elton John

And all this science I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
---------------------------------------

Little Neutrino - Klaatu
---------------------------------------

Calling Occupants (of Interplanetary Craft) - Klaatu (also covered by The Carpenters) (SETI)
----------------------------------------

Anus of Uranus - Klaatu
----------------------------------------

Space Oddity - David Bowie
----------------------------------------

The last two might be stretching things a bit.

Time Becomes by Orbital

There is the theory of the mobius, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop.

(Voiced by Worf  )

And then Jordi:

when we reach that point, whatever happened will happen again...

Well, there's Coldplay's The Scientist for one

Particle Man by TMBG

Science by System of a Down

Science Fiction from Rocky Horror (heck, a lot from that would qualify)

The Future's So Bright by Timbuk 3
"I studied nuclear science..."

Walter Egan's Magnet and Steel
"For you are a magnet and I am steel..."

OK, that last one might be stretching it a bit

My first post here...

i have chosen SOAD song called Science:

Making two possibilities a reality
Predicting the future of things we all know
Fighting off the diseased programming
Of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries
Science fails to recognise the single most
Potent element of human existence
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith
Science has failed our world
Science has failed our mother earth
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith
Science has failed our world
Science has failed our mother earth
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Science has failed our mother earth

I do not totally agree with lyrics, but still...

I suppose Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" is too obvious, eh?

:)

Zz.

Uh... Weird Science?

I guess that's even more obvious that Dolby. :redface:Brain Transeau, one of my favorite artists, once did a track called "The Fibonacci Sequence," but I think it's pretty awful. Not just because he samples in the quote, "mathematics is the language of nature" a bunch of times in it, and I become irritated at the claim that mathematics is a language in the first place. And not just because the sample is from the movie Pi, which approaches similar levels of awfulness. But it's just so coarse and aggressive that it can hardly be considered music. Like most techno. o:)
