What are the "key image properties" of an image?

Homework Statement

Hi,

I'm been assigned a project to capture images of laser speckle and do some image processing in Matlab.
The directions say to "measure key image properties".

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

So far I have measured the average pixel intensity, speckle contrast and generated an image histogram - all done in Matlab.
Are there any other properties I should be measuring? Or does that cover it...

Thanks for the help.

The key image properties can include things like contrast, brightness, sharpness, color quality, and resolution. You may also want to measure the area of the image, number of pixels, size of the image or any other properties that are relevant to your project.

What are the key image properties that determine an image's quality?

The key image properties that determine an image's quality are resolution, file format, color depth, aspect ratio, and compression.

What is image resolution and how does it affect an image?

Image resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image, typically measured in pixels per inch (PPI) or dots per inch (DPI). Higher resolution images have more detail and appear clearer, while lower resolution images may appear pixelated or blurry.

How does the file format of an image impact its quality?

The file format of an image can impact its quality by affecting the amount of detail and color information that can be stored in the image. Some file formats, like JPEG, use compression to reduce file size which can result in a loss of image quality. Other formats, like PNG, preserve more detail but have larger file sizes.

What is color depth and why is it important in images?

Color depth refers to the number of colors that can be displayed in an image. The higher the color depth, the more colors and shades can be represented in an image, resulting in a more realistic and detailed image. It is important in images because it can greatly impact the perceived quality and accuracy of the image.

How does aspect ratio affect the composition of an image?

Aspect ratio refers to the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image. It can affect the composition of an image by determining how much of the image is filled with subject matter and how much is empty space. An aspect ratio that is too wide or narrow may result in a visually unappealing or unbalanced image.
