In summary, a twisted pair cable is a type of cable used in telecommunications and computer networks, consisting of two twisted copper wires to reduce interference. It has advantages such as low cost and ease of installation, as well as resistance to electrical interference. Twisted pair cable is categorized into different categories, including Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat7, each with varying performance and capabilities. It can be used for long distances, but the maximum distance depends on the category and networking standard. While it is commonly used, it may not be suitable for high-speed and long-distance connections, which may require other types of cables such as coaxial or fiber optic cables.

Why is that in twisted pair cable, the tighter the twisting, the higher the supported transmission rate?

Thankyou

The tighter the twist, the better the coupling between the two wires, the less the EM escape out along the surface so less energy is lost from radiation along the way so higher frequencies can be carry for longer distance.

I totally forgot the common mode rejection part! Sorry.

Related to Why Does Tighter Twisting in Twisted Pair Cable Increase Transmission Rate?

What is a twisted pair cable?

A twisted pair cable is a type of cable commonly used for telecommunications and computer networks. It consists of two copper wires twisted together to reduce interference and crosstalk between the wires.

What are the advantages of using twisted pair cable?

Twisted pair cable is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and can support high bandwidths. It also provides better resistance to electrical interference compared to other types of cables.

What are the different categories of twisted pair cable?

Twisted pair cable is categorized into different categories based on their performance and capabilities. The most commonly used categories are Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat7, with each category having different specifications for bandwidth and maximum cable length.

Can twisted pair cable be used for long distances?

Yes, twisted pair cable can be used for long distances, but the maximum distance depends on the category of the cable and the networking standard being used. For example, Cat5e cable can support distances up to 100 meters for Ethernet connections.

How does twisted pair cable compare to other types of cables?

Twisted pair cable is one of the most commonly used types of cables for networking. It is cheaper and easier to install compared to other types of cables, such as coaxial or fiber optic cables. However, it may not be suitable for high-speed and long-distance connections, which may require the use of other types of cables.
