    Contour integration exp(ikx)/x

Well the problem statement just said k was real number so I tacitly assumed it to be positive and closed the contour in the half plane. The integral shouldn't depend on which half-plane you use to close the contour anyway. edit: apparently the sign of the integral does depend on k. But if I...

    Contour integration exp(ikx)/x

Homework Statement Calculate the principal value integral exp(ikx)/x from -infinity to infinity first with a formula derived in the textbook and then by displacing the pole. Use this result to calculate the integral of sin(x)/x from -infinity to infinity. Homework Equations If the...

    Heat conduction in hollow cilinder.

Ah yes of course:blushing: My brain is all but melted right now because of all the studying I guess. Thanks for the help.

    Heat conduction in hollow cilinder.

You're right, is this better? T = T1+ heatflux/(k*2*pi*l)*ln(r/R1) It seems to describe the right heat gradient but how do I get the heatflux from this?

    Heat conduction in hollow cilinder.

When I integrate the formula you've given me I get T = (heat flux)/(k*2pi*l)*ln(R) To find the heat flux should i simply fill in T1 and R1? I feel like I've missed something since the problem seems a bit simple this way.

    Heat conduction in hollow cilinder.

Homework Statement Given is a hollow cilinder with inner radius R1 and outer radius R2. The heat conductivity of the material is k. The cilinder has length l and an inner temperature of T1 and outer temperature T2. Determine the temperature gradient in the cilinder and the heat flow that leaks...

Is there a way to add a time parameter to see how the system evolves over time?

i really like how it simulates revolving bodies. Kudos for that :) edit: when i choose radius 0 the object is still there even thought i cannot see it. I would like to be able to create field without masses, just to experiment with the attraction

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

thanks again! this thread can be locked or forgotten now :)

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

i think i finally got it, i had used a wrong formula to find the speed yesterday, saying it was m*g*h. obviously that's only the potential energy and the speed is the root of (2*g*h) so v^2 (which is essentially the centripetal acceleration, assuming R=1) is 2*g*h when the two forces are in...

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

i understand that intuitively but i don't now how to translate the part: moving too fast. in a formula. that's thing I've been stuck on the most i think. i know the centripetal force is m*g*cos(theta) , meaning it gets lower and lower but i don't know how i relate the speed to that expression

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

it's gone, only gravity is left pointing downwards

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

the hemisphere would, is it just an action-reaction kind of force?

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

does the speed of the point-object also create a centrifugal force?

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

only the tangential and normal component of gravity

When Does the Marble Detach from the Hemisphere?

hmm thanks for the hint. I think that the moment the ball would fly off the surface the tangential component of the force should be greater than the normal component, is that right? If that's the case the angle would be 45° which does seem rather logical. I'm not sure if that's what you meant...
