How Long Does It Take for a Particle to Travel Through an Earth-Crossing Tunnel?
Understood. But the little doubt that remains in my mind is that particle was projected with a speed in the tunnel, can the equations of SHM be used?- Avi1995

Eliminate T to Show SHM of a Rectangular Plate
Err...I mean it was exactly same :P. In my mind it does make little sense, as the mass is symmetrically suspended. Since time period of pendulum was independent of mass this should be also.- Avi1995

How Long Does It Take for a Particle to Travel Through an Earth-Crossing Tunnel?
But there is no change in potential energy from one end to other end as both are on surface. So shouldn't K.E. remain same?- Avi1995

But outside the surface the field is non linear, so it won't be a shm.- Avi1995

How Long Does It Take for a Particle to Travel Through an Earth-Crossing Tunnel?
Problem: Assume that a tunnel is dug across the earth(radius=R) passing through its centre. Find the time a particle takes to cover the length of tunnel if it is projected into the tunnel with a speed of \sqrt{gR} 2. Homework Equations : Basic SHM equations: 1.F=-kx 2.T=(2*pi)/(omega)...- Avi1995

Eliminate T to Show SHM of a Rectangular Plate
Thank you sir! I finally solved it! Solution: After I sketched it I found what I was doing wrong. Taking forces normal to string, -mgsin(theta)=ma a=-g(theta) theta=x/L(approx) a=-g/L T=2*pi*sqrt(L/g)- Avi1995

Eliminate T to Show SHM of a Rectangular Plate
Q:A rectangular plate of sides a and b is supended from a ceiling by two parallel strings of length L each(Fig). The Separation between the strings is d. The plate is displaced slightly in its plane keeping the strings tight. Show that it will execute SHM. Find the time period...- Avi1995

How to Determine the Velocity of a Triangular Block in a Frictionless System?
Thank you so much, Sir. I was finally able to solve the problem using your method. Although I won't be able to post the solution as it is quite long but the method is same. PS: Can anyone tell me some good FREE Mathematics Software, so that i am able to write equations easily and graph some...- Avi1995

How to Determine Max Extension of a Spring in a Frictionless System?
The situation is shown :- All surfaces are frictionless. I am trying to find the max extension of the spring as the force is applied. Spring is massless. F=maI tried drawing FBDs for block A and B:- F-kx=Ma(from fbd of A) kx=ma(from fbd of B) , we get x=Fm/k(M+m) Is this correct?? Also can...- Avi1995
