Graduate Distance from earth an object would have to fall from to reach speed x
Thank you very much! So my mistake was to presume that I could jump from: a dr ----> v^2 because the units matched up :P. Well this was fun and definitely helped me brush up on my maths :)! Regards, Greg. -

Graduate Distance from earth an object would have to fall from to reach speed x
Thanks for the reply. I'm still not sure where I went wrong. I'd have thought that is my acceleration equation was correct, then as long as I integrated everything properly my v^2 equation should still be correct, because I'd have though that the division part of integrating would have sorted... -

Graduate The reverse operation for the dot product?
By "I knew already" I meant that the extra terms where the input variables (constants for each given 3D vector), so I was silly to have been confused by them :P. Sometimes it's the easy parts which get you :P.- cawthorne

Graduate Distance from earth an object would have to fall from to reach speed x
big G = G = 6.674E-11 N(m/Kg)^2 Mass of Earth = Me = 5.972E24 Kg Radius of Earth = Rsurface = Rs = 6.371E6 metres THIS IS NOT HOMEWORK Okay so I was interested to know how you would work out the distance you'd need drop an object from (above the Earth's surface), for it to reach a given... -

Graduate The reverse operation for the dot product?
Ahhh silly me :P. I did think it might have been a quadratic thing, but I got lost in all the extra terms (which I knew already!) :P. Thanks!- cawthorne

Graduate The reverse operation for the dot product?
r = (x, y, z)+ lambda*(a, b, c) where x, y, z, a, b, c are know and lambda is known. let's say we want r when alpha = 80 degrees Okay so we have the equation alpha = acos(((x+ lambda*a, y + lambda*b, z + lambda*c).(1, 0, 0))/(((x+ lambda*a)^2 + (y+ lambda*b)^2 + (z + lambda*c)^2)^(0.5))*(1^2...- cawthorne

Graduate The reverse operation for the dot product?
Okay. First off. This isn't homework. I have been working on a personal project and if I could get an equation for this it would really help me out. I'll try and explain the problem the best I can. What I need: An equation/method where I can specify an angle theta and a 3D line and it...- cawthorne
