    Lateral compression of rectangular tube

Hi guys, Bit of a noob engineer here so looking for some guidance. I'm designing a fixture which will be constructed from stainless steel rectangular tube as shown in the diagram. If I apply a 10,000kg weight over a 100mx100mm area how do I go about calculating the stress and ultimately safe...

Help Understanding Transposing Formula in Roarks Formulas for Stress and Strain

Homework Statement Hi, I'm looking through Roarks Formulas for Stress and Strain and I am having difficulty following one of the examples. Unfortunately my maths isn't as good as I would like. Hopefully someone can explain to me the steps taken to find the solution. Homework Equations...

How can I use integration to find the maximum deflection in a beam?

Homework Statement Find the maximum deflection in the beam. E=205Gpa Beam breadth = 195mm UDL on beam: 40 Bar Homework Equations I have useed the method of superposition to try and solve it. Is this the best way? It has been suggested that finding the displacement by integration would...

Pressure / temperature realtionship in polymers

Hi, these is possibly a dumb question but... I know that with regards to gases: (P1*V1)/T1 = (P2*V2)/T2 However does this still apply to polymers in liquid state? In an injection moulding machine if I increase the pressure will you get an increase in temperature if the volume of...

    Deflection using strain gages?

I'm still going to be filling the cavity with plastic and making parts to create the same load conditions on the plate as in production. So I need the ejection to work to remove the plastic parts without having to strip the tool down and remove it that way as it'll take far too long.

    Deflection using strain gages?

Hi Studiot. The reason I can't use a dial clock is that the iejection plate moves up and down in that empty space. I have fitted some small buttons to protect the strain gauges but there would be no room for any bigger measuring device like a dial clock and still have ejection working correctly...

    Deflection using strain gages?

Apologies for the amateurish drawing. Basically this is the corss section of the tool. A square mould cavity in the middle of the tool will deflect the cavity plate downwards. I am trying to calculte how much this deflection is. Thanks Vader, that exactly the type of thing I'm looking for...

    Deflection using strain gages?

The Gage factor is 2.14. I understand that strain is just simply change in length over original length. However this only tells me how much the gage he's elongated and not the distance the gage has deflected downwards. I know there must be a way to do this, I've searched the internet trying to...

    Deflection using strain gages?

Hi Guys, I'm wanting to measure deflection in an injection mould tool. I'm planning on using strain gages to measure the strain in the tool under injection pressure. Is there a way I can use these strain readings to calculate the deflection in the plates? Thankyou for any help. :)
