    B The most distant object

Trying to grok the concept of an edgeless, bounded universe. I'd have thought that the fact of distributed centrality would be more obvious to us; to me. Of course it is obvious, invisible, like that elephant in the room... I do not wish to offend. Therefore I find I must explain that, for me...

I see wonderful comedy here :)

    B Aperiodic Diffraction Grating

:) Thank you for that, @Ibix I now see that what I'm thinking of making, by blazing razor lines onto aluminium, is in fact a hologram.

    B The most distant object

Hi People :) If we are in an expanding universe, then the nature of the boundary between what exists and what does not exist is of interest. Could one, in principle, stand on some final planet, at the edge of the universe? If I could travel to that final planet, what would I see? I can hardly...

    B Aperiodic Diffraction Grating

Hi People :) The drawing shows a broadband light source illuminating a diffraction grating whose lines are spaced differently along the grating. The blazed lines of the grating are spaced in such a way that the path length from every line to the slit is one wavelength shorter than the line...

    I Another Interferometry question please

Thankyou :) I have noticed that photon physics is full of "dragons". It is the wavefunction which is divided. A full understanding of these phenomena is reportedly difficult to gain. Mmm hmmm. From my present level of understanding, the clarities I seem to perceive turn straight away into...

    I Another Interferometry question please

Thank you. I think I see... The 2 halves of the divided energy of the photon must be realised in the same detecting atom. My design would result in a scattered pattern on each side of the detector, despite the detector being very thin.

Mystery noise in flue (no, it's not a critter)

A little stream of droplets of water sometimes gets into an electrical cable in a confined space... ?

    I Another Interferometry question please

Hi people :) I am once again mystified, and ask "Why?" The attached .png shows the light paths of an interferometer. Between the beam splitter and mirror 3 the light is guided through an excursion which lengthens the path that the light must take to get from the laser source to the detector...

I Incomprehension of a simple interferometer?

Anti-bunching mechanism for photons; quantum hairbrush? Thanks for your patience, you good fellows. :)

I Incomprehension of a simple interferometer?

Hey that "jump" from "could probably be engineered" to "could be manufactured" wasn't so bad, was it? Optical attenuators could certainly reduce energies of a powerful beam to any arbitrary value... is a laser of low power equivalent to a laser of reduced power?

Calculus Books with fully solved problems vs just final results?

Hi :) I successfully self-educated in algebra using a Schaum's book with several 100 solved problems. This helped me a great deal when I got an opportunity for more formal education.

I Incomprehension of a simple interferometer?

So a laser EM field could be indefinitely weak? It's hard to believe in a laser whose output energies are less than, say, a single quantum over the lifetime of the universe. Yet, with attenuators, and I don't know why you'd want to, I guess such a device could be constructed. What a project...

I Incomprehension of a simple interferometer?

I purposely asked a edge case question. It appears that a single photon might be collimated with itself, and sent with high directionality, at least. :) and it's wonderful, innit.

I Incomprehension of a simple interferometer?

Thank you, .Scott So a 1 photon/second laser could be manufactured. Alright, that makes good sense in the end. Still, I find it to be rather wonderful :)
