How Big Is the Airplane That Matches the Width of an 8-Lane Roadway?

Well their business sense seems to be paying off judging by the amount of workshop equipment I sell to the factory in Deeside where they make the A380 wings, they've got a huge amount of orders for these planes - business is good! I can tell you that standing next to one of these wings is...

Question about reflecting sunlight off a mirror

Great, the ideas not a dead one then! Just need a large mirror. But it would have to move gradually throughout the day to enable the sunlight to stay on target... Sounds a bit tricky.

Question about reflecting sunlight off a mirror

Thanks for posting guys. Looks like my idea wouldn't work then. The idea came when I was enviously looking out of my window at some neighbours basking in the sun in their conservatories late in the afternoon, at which point there was no direct sunlight on my garden. I wondered whether it...

Question about reflecting sunlight off a mirror

First off, I apologise for this basic (and rather random) question. I am not educated in this area, in fact I have no education in physics whatsoever, but an idea for an invention came to me over the weekend and whether it is feasible or not depends on the answer to this question. I have enjoyed...

Fossil Hunting Fun: Share Your Stories and Photos!

Thanks for the info, matthyaouw. I'm going to do some research on the net and buy myself a geological hammer. If anyone can recommend a good book on fossil hunting, detailing all the fossil types that can be found and best ways to go about it, I'd be very grateful. Looking forward to a...

Fossil Hunting Fun: Share Your Stories and Photos!

I'm really pleased I came across this topic as I've recently become quite interested in rocks and fossil hunting, although I've not had the opportunity to actually try it yet! I live in Cheshire and was unsure of where to go searching. Is Staithes a good place to go for my first trip? It's a...

    Has anyone experienced Synchronicity

I just searched for synchronicity on the forums here, because I have just discovered this term whilst searching on the net trying to find out why a certain number keeps appearing in my life. I constantly see the number 237 all the time. Some examples are looking at the clock and it's...

Has any supernatural event been 'proven'?

I know that things like poltergeists, ghosts and the afterlife (whether you believe in them or not) belong in the supernatural realm because they aren't proven, but on Sky TV you come across documentaries where they have so-called specialists who claim to be using special equipment which shows...

Music Why do we enjoy the music that we listen to?

We must never forget that the music we listen to is all made up from vibrations coming from the diverse range of matter that we find in the universe in which we live... we create these sounds by simply "strumming" at the stuff that surrounds us. We, as humans, create music with our inner...

Religion - Looking for a book that deals with the origin of all religions

A scientist believing in a religion? I'd love to read this - did he write a book on it? I've been reading some of the links people have provided, and this one that Rachel posted actually gives a good (albeit basic) overview of the main religions' beliefs, etc...

Religion - Looking for a book that deals with the origin of all religions

An easy way to imagine this new big bang idea, is to picture a bow-tie. The centre point is creation of the universe, with the wider points showing the furthest expansion of the universe before it goes back on itself again.
