Total energy (ETOTAL) is not zero and increasing (Abaqus)?

Have you looked to see if this is a mesh problem? Could be that for accurate nonlinear results you need more elements?

B Is Energy Constantly Changing Its Location?

Curiosity. Yes me too. What facinates me most is the conversion of Energy from one type to another, that this quantity is so easily exchangeable. It wasn't meant in a critical manner, my apologies if I came across that way.

B Is Energy Constantly Changing Its Location?

I think the crux of the OP surrounds the definition of Energy. My own background is in Mechanical Engineering so for me I use the idea of Energy to work out how thinig do or don't deform, how things move or how to make them move in a prticular way, that kind of thing. So I know how to use the...

B Is Energy Constantly Changing Its Location?

So nobody has a clear definition of Energy?

Is the Parenago Discontinuity a real thing?

When you talk about velocity dispersion are you talking about deceleration?

Is the Parenago Discontinuity a real thing?

Thanks for the informative replies, I have some reading to do...

Is the Parenago Discontinuity a real thing?

Recently I came across a discussion on a Pantheist forum concerning the movement of cooler Stars & the Parenago Discontinuity. The proposal was that this disconinuity could be used as a way of testing whether cooler Star have self determination... yeah yeah I know, I'm not asking here for a...

"Zero thickness" error in SOL 600 (Patran)

What kind of elements are you using? Sounds a lot like an hour-glassing problem that some under-integrated elements suffer from.

Should I learn Pro/Engineer or SolidWorks?

I love SolidWorks but there are (as with any package) some irksome things like the way it uses Boolean operations or editing in assemblies but other than that its very easy to use. I tried to use Pro E but gave up, they won't be getting my money.

What math is needed for hexagonal mesh wrapping on a 3D volume?

So if I have a surface that is morphologically the same as a torus I should be able to mesh its surface with hexagons?

What math is needed for hexagonal mesh wrapping on a 3D volume?

My apologies, I appear to have used that term incorrectly. Could you expand on this please? In particular which Euler characteristics would allow for hexagonal meshing & why?

What math is needed for hexagonal mesh wrapping on a 3D volume?

Yes that's what I thought but then I came along things like this... and They are from a post on Create a hexagonal mesh on a torus I don't have access to Mathematica so unfortunately this isn't a solution. I would ideally like to be able to generate my own meshes on my own surfaces.

What math is needed for hexagonal mesh wrapping on a 3D volume?

Hi thanks for the reply Alpha. I'm not concerned if they are all regular hexagons just that they remain convex. I've been looking at some surface meshing algorithms & they are all (so far at least) either based on Delunay triangulation or Voronoi diagrams. I was wondering a couple of...

Help with solving three equations with 3 unknowns

Solve (1) & (2) independently as you have 2 equations with 2 unknowns then substitute into (3) As you know R1 & as long as R1 does NOT = R2 then I'd try multiplying (1) & (2) through by (pi/4)(R1^4-R2^4)

What math is needed for hexagonal mesh wrapping on a 3D volume?

I should possibly clarify, I wish to discretize the surface with planar hexagons. Much like what is done with finite element shell elements but hexagons not quads.
