you only acknowledging only part of the points I made. The point is that to suggest Spivak as the first introduction to calculus will most likely be off putting for people to learn it. Nowhere did I state that no one should use spivak. If a person wants to use spivak to learn calculus, then...
Thanks for the reply. I acquired this book because I felt that in my current calculus 2 textbook has problems that are too simple. I just experienced the difficulty of Liethold's text, and thought I would reach out and ask those who have used the text to figure out how they overcame some of the...
Oh please, you think that Khan cares? Quit trying to make a straw man argument. Quit trying to make the appeal to higher authority argument. So what if Bill Gates likes it, that is irrelevant. Bill Gates is a fan of anything that deals with education, or that makes him look like he is an...
To be quite honest, I learned the most about physics not from lectures but from talking with professors during their office hours. Find a professor, assuming you are at a college, and see if they would help you with some problems. Most professors are more than happy to help a student understand...
You need decent preparation to handle spivak. If a person picks up spivak without understanding how to write proofs, or understand the logic of compiling proofs, then that will just discourage most from trying to learn the subject. Most college analysis courses offer spivak as the text for entry...
I still think it is a garbage site. I think most people use it because that is the first thing that they have heard of when it comes to online education, or tutoring as you call it. They do not look for other videos, they just stick with Khan. I just don't think people should only be touting KA...
It depends on what the school's curriculum is. My school does not teach it, but I have not suffered because I do not know it. The main point is that knowing it, is fine. If you're not required to learn it, then there is not harm done.
Probably the most difficult textbook problem was trying to find the integral of xsin^-1(x) from 0 to 1 only using integration by parts. I had to confer with my TA, and specifically state that I needed to use integration by parts not trig substitutions.
I do not deny that understanding conic sections is important, but including them in a college algebra course or not including them does not make or break a person. The college algebra at my school did not include them, nor did my calculus course. I think in Calc III we might go over them. My...
Even though they use screen draw, it is essentially the same as someone recording a powerpoint using some input software to write, and throwing it up on youtube. That concept is the same. That is why I suggested the other channels. They have instructors that you can see(this is my point)...
