Interactions of Light and Matter
Homework Statement The tungsten cathode in an electron microscope has a work function of 4.5 eV and is heated to release electrons that are initially at rest (near the cathode). The electrons are accelerated by a potential difference that creates a beam with a de Broglie wavelength of 0.040...- EskShift

How Do You Calculate Battery Life Probability After 180 Hours?
Homework Statement The life (in hours) of a particular brand of batteries is a random variable with probability density function given by f(x) = {1/1000e^(-x/1000)}, x ≥ 0, 0 elsewhere. If after 180 hours of operation a battery is still working, what is the probability that it will last at...- EskShift

All electric power- Motor (AC and DC), generators
Hey all, i have a summary report coming up which is assessed. I was just wondering if u guys could help out on the know how, terms and all the other stuff to go along with that stuff. Apparently the Summary has a 'prac' layed out like a case study i guess. The teacher said that we would need to...- EskShift

Finding the Solution to a Differential Equation
ohh no! i was looking at the wrong equation. mistake on my behalf, i would say its supposed to be the same equation but with -3 at the top? that looks better in my eyes but your opinion would be great!- EskShift

Finding the Solution to a Differential Equation
i don't know if i have really learned all this yet, to me its a really tough question so I am assuming I am not quite there yet lol. but none-the-less, the answer i received on paper was: -6 / (2x - 1)^1/2 + c but from the way i have been going its probably wrong...- EskShift

Finding the Solution to a Differential Equation
ohh i understand. ok well back to my first thoughts, in a way i think i can write it: y = (3 ∫u ^-3/2) / 2 y = (3 ∫u ^-1/2) / 2 * -1/2 y = (3 ∫u ^-1/2) / -1 if that's correct a hint for the next step please?- EskShift

Finding the Solution to a Differential Equation
Ok so thought du/dx was 2, and so its dy/du * 2 = 3/u3/2. That was where i got stuck :P, i thought, well then dy/du must equal 3 / u3/2 / 2 But as you just mentioned, i left out another du. so its 2y = 3∫u3-/2 * du therefore 2y = 3∫u3-/2 * 2 (du = 2 right?) can just you just confirm that's correct?- EskShift

How to Calculate Work Done in Extending a Material to Breaking Point?
thats still fairly confusing! the change in length is 0.8m, the original length is 2m, stress is 60,000Pa at point of fracture and Strain is 0.4 at point of fracture, radius of the cylinder is 20cm and i need to find the work done to extend the materials to the point of fracture. Work = Fx...- EskShift
