Undergrad Isothermal Process in a Non-Insulated Piston: Heat Exchange?
When an ideal gas expands in a piston during an isothermal process, does it necessarily absorbs heat from the surroundings in order to maintain its temperature? (Piston is not insulated). IF yes, When the same procedure is carried out in a perfectly insulated piston, then temperature drops...- Mattheo

Thermodynamics Enthelpy Problem
I see what you mean. Thanks a lot for making me realize my mistake. But there is one more thing that I am confused: The concept of enthalpy. It is hard to define it that's why I have difficulties of using it. I mean, if u is the internal energy, which is a function of Temperature, how can you...- Mattheo

Thermodynamics Enthelpy Problem
So could you tell me where I am wrong? I believe my assumptions are correct. Energy transfer by work is in terms of force(PV) and by heat is in terms of temperature (internal energy, or is it enthalpy?)- Mattheo

Thermodynamics Enthelpy Problem
Why not a? There is a rise in temperature. So, vaporization is process completed. Or is it because my explanation wasn't adequate?- Mattheo

Thermodynamics Enthelpy Problem
A frictionless piston cylinder device contains a saturated liquid (refrigerant-134a). The refrigerant is heated until it reaches to some temperature. Determine the work done and heat transferred to the refrigerant during this process. I just want to make sure that I understand this topic. I...- Mattheo

Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram
Homework Statement This is the question that I am struggling with. http://postimg.org/image/5kb0pur3z/ I need to plot shear force and bending moment diagram of it.Homework Equations The beam is in static equilibrium so algebraic sum of forces in x and y direction equal zero. Also, moment is...- Mattheo

Why Does Mild Steel Only Have One Yield Point?
I learned that our equipment should have been more sensitive to measure the second yield point. Cheers.- Mattheo

Why Does Mild Steel Only Have One Yield Point?
Hello, Engineering stress curve, force divided by original cross sectional area. The graph I got was exactly like this http://www.benbest.com/cryonics/sscurve.gif However, what I think is I should have got a graph like this with upper and lower yield points included...- Mattheo

Why Does Mild Steel Only Have One Yield Point?
Homework Statement I had a Young's Modulus experiment in lab. Our specimen, which was used, was mild steel. After plotting the graph I realized that there was only one yield point. However, as I read from many sources, there must be two yield points for mild steel(upper and lower). I am pretty...- Mattheo
