Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on plotting shear force and bending moment diagrams for a beam in static equilibrium, specifically addressing a moment of 50 kN·m. Participants emphasize that the algebraic sum of forces in both x and y directions must equal zero, and that moments at any point on the beam must also sum to zero. The challenge presented involves understanding how to accurately represent the 50 kN·m moment in the bending moment diagram, which is characterized by a sudden jump at that point.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of static equilibrium principles in mechanics
  • Familiarity with shear force and bending moment diagrams
  • Knowledge of algebraic summation of forces and moments
  • Basic skills in structural analysis
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the process of constructing shear force diagrams for beams
  • Learn how to create bending moment diagrams using specific examples
  • Explore the effects of point loads and moments on beam diagrams
  • Review static equilibrium equations and their applications in structural analysis
USEFUL FOR

Students in civil engineering, structural engineers, and anyone involved in mechanics of materials or structural analysis will benefit from this discussion.

Homework Statement

This is the question that I am struggling with.

http://postimg.org/image/5kb0pur3z/

I need to plot shear force and bending moment diagram of it.

Homework Equations

The beam is in static equilibrium so algebraic sum of forces in x and y direction equal zero.
Also, moment is zero at any point.

The Attempt at a Solution

I didn't understand how I am going to deal with 50 kN m.

In the moment diagram at that point it is just a jump of 50kN m, nothing more
