What Do F=ma and the Definitions of Force and Mass Really Mean?

i see Newton's second law as nothing more than a definition. the second and third laws TOGETHER though, form an actual physical law- the conservation of momentum, which is an empirically determined thing, not just a definition.

How can I combine my love for physics with a career in renewable energy?

i'm in my third year studying environmental engineering and I'm trying to decide what to do for grad school. my favorite subject is physics by far; I've really enjoyed my courses in dynamics, fluid mechanics, E & M, and statistical mechanics, which I'm taking as an elective. i also really liked...

    Partial derivatives in thermodynamics

thank you. that's exactly the kind of thing i was looking for. sorry if that was so easy to find that it didn't warrant asking the forum.

    Partial derivatives in thermodynamics

in basic multivariate calculus, i never learned about differentiating functions of multiple variables which are also functions of each other. i.e. \frac{d}{d x_1} \left[ f(x_1, x_2, x_3) \right] where x_1 = g(x_2, x_3) studying thermodynamics right now, I'm encountering into...
