How to work out frictional torque

    What you are saying is that N.m = kg.m2(rad/s2) or(kg.m/s2)(m) = kg.m2(rad/s2) or am I missing something?

How to work out frictional torque

It is if you're using angular acceleration rad/s2 not m/s2

How to work out frictional torque

If your using the Newton's second law for rotational motion τ=αI You have to make sure the units are correct. Torque is not Nm it's J/rad. 1 Nm is 2π J/rad Moment of Inertia stays as kg.m2 Going back to basic units [(kg.m^2)/(s^2)]/(rad)=(kg.m^2)(rad/s^2)

Laptop for CAD Software (Entry Level)

System Requirements: http://usa.autodesk.com/autodesk-inventor/system-requirements/ http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequirements.html I've never used solidworks on my laptop before so I can't comment on it. Boneh3ad, what kind processes were you trying to run?

Laptop for CAD Software (Entry Level)

I'm not too familiar with the new Intel products but just a quick glance says it should. However I would say try to get the best processor, graphics card (if applicable) and screen you can. The RAM and hard drive can always be upgraded at a later date but the first three are are either very...

Laptop for CAD Software (Entry Level)

Pretty much any new laptop will handle those programs fairly well. The laptop I'm typing this on is a 5 year old Sony Vaio laptop, 2GHz dual core, 32 bit Vista (Ya-ya-ya, I know Vista is rubbish), 3GB of RAM, a 256MB ATI graphics card and 500 GB hard drive. It has handled Autodesk AutoCAD and...

    Determining optimum flywheel dimensions

Hmmm... I tried the MOI/mass vs. r2. The maximum point on the curve corresponded to r2 = 42.5 mm. I then got the bearing resistances for that mass and MOI and plugged it into another excel spreadsheet to determine the maximum spin time it would achieve given initial velocity 1047 rad/sec. It...

    Determining optimum flywheel dimensions

I've been using Excel to perform iterative calculations and then plotted the MOI and mass against r2. resulting in this graph I then tried to approximate where the slope of MOI dropped off significantly compared to the the slope of the mass. Would this be an acceptable approximation?

What is a thrust load and how does it affect bearings in a winch?

As far as I know a thrust load would be acting along the axis of the shaft the bearings are mounted on. You'll most likely only be dealing with radial loads on the bearings.

    Determining optimum flywheel dimensions

Hello all, I am currently doing a design project on gyroscopes. My question concerns the flywheel design, specifically trying to determine the dimensions of a flanged free-spinning flywheel to maximize the moment of inertia while trying to minimize the mass, given certain design constraints...
