Basics of Common Emitter amplifier.
Emitter resistor RE affects the input impedance and the gain by the same factor, in opposite magnitude, by [1+gmRE]. The smaller RE the larger the gain, but the lower the input impedance. Everything in the amplifier is a design tradeoff dependent on the functional circuit requirements.- niehaoma

Programs EE student thinking about changing major
@SuperMiguel, I think you are in the midst of realizing the transition from idealizing a hobby to discovering the real world, at least to date via your EE classes. For instance, I know many an avid avionics/aerospace enthusiast that entered an Aerospace engineering program due to their love...- niehaoma

POLL: The BEST Circuit Analysis Textbook & Circuit Analysis Help
I am looking for recommendations on the which textbook/resource (though I prefer textbook) provides the greatest understanding and development of intuition in utilizing circuit analysis to solve problems. Background: I have the book: "Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" by Sadiku &...- niehaoma

Orcad Capture PSpice Diode Libraries
It seems I am having issues locating a valid Orcad Capture PSpice library with the 1N4000 series of diodes. I have downloaded Diode.olb, however when I simulate, I get an error such as: "ERROR -- Model D1N4009 used by D_D2 is undefined" From my understanding, this arises due to the fact the...- niehaoma

Learning vs. Passing: A Student's Perspective on Studying and Grade Achievement
Ideally, if the course subject matter is something the student is interested in, then by all means one should study all the material in the book, regardless of what is covered in class. The problem is this usually isn't feasible in terms of time. Most students take max load, and therefore are...- niehaoma

Programs I don't think I like Circuits and I'm an EE major
DrummingAtom, I think you need to just be more patient (which can be scary). Everything builds on the something formerly learned. Kind of like drivers training. You sit and learn all the rules, then one day, you actually get to start driving (perhaps a bad analogy, but the point is clear). The...- niehaoma

Learning Ohm's Law, KVL & KCL for Biomedical Engineering
To the OP, what you listed in terms of topics is enough to fill an into EE Circuits Analysis course. I always recommend Google. In general terms, Ohm's Law, KVL/KCL are circuit analysis techniques to determine circuit parameters. Op Amps can occupy an entire book. In general, perhaps related to...- niehaoma

Electrical/Electrical books for circuit/network theory
Lathi - Signals and Systems. Any intro EE book or signals book should have a chapter [ at least] on signals, as well as a review chapter on complex numbers. Lathi's book has a beginning chapter on both complex numbers and sinusoids. Google is also your [free] friend in information...- niehaoma

Engineering After school options for an Engineer
No problem. In my opinion, for me at least, I wish I would have obtained my Masters directly after my B.S. I did not have the financial means however to do that, so I went into industry. I am now pursuing my Master's, and it is difficult balancing work/life/school. Also, as you mentioned, doing...- niehaoma

Engineering After school options for an Engineer
Be cautious, especially with a statement like "... let the company pay for my Master's degree" . Just because an employer may offer financial reimbursement does NOT mean: (1) it covers all your tuition costs (it often does not), and (2) you can leave work to go to class at your leisure, and...- niehaoma

PhD in Cryptography: Private Sector Career Advice
In regards to SPA/DPA, it is multifaceted. Yes, there are elements of Software engineering/programming, Electrical Engineering, etc, however, if one is looking at a power trace, and attempting to hone in on an area of a signal, they must understand what they are trying to look for. In other...- niehaoma

PhD in Cryptography: Private Sector Career Advice
I work in the area of cryptography, though I am NOT a cryptographer (I wish I had the mathematical background, but I do not). Your best bet is likely NSA/DoD. However, what area of cryptography are you interested in? Algorithm development, cryptanalysis, etc? This can help shape your path...- niehaoma

Levels of difficulty in Electrical and Computer Engineering
I got my B.S in Comp. Engineering w/ a minor in Comp Science. For me, digital design and programming was more intuitive and easy to understand (i.e. intellectually tangible) than Electrical Engineering. However, I am now pursuing my M.S. in Elec Eng. I find it much more difficult, for me anyway...- niehaoma

Programs Giving up on Engineering major, struggling in math
Thanks for elaborating. I used your post as an example, as I have seen other similar posts. Again, I was also only offering my opinion. I know, during my B.S., I did not "like" math, however, I loved the engineering. I got a degree, and have done well. However, having said that, I believe my...- niehaoma
