Can anybody tell me how to work out the deflection of a cantilever beam with a stepped diameter? I have looked through Roark's Formulas but can't seem to be able to do it
The diameter of the beam would vary from 5mm to 3mm and back up to 5mm.

I'm stuck on a beam bending problem I have. I have 2 cantilever beams one one top of the other applying a force. I need to know find the stress on the left hand beam and the deflection. I have the formulas (using Roark's formulas of stress and strain) but there's nothing about two cantilevers...
but doesn't the resultant lift always act in one direction relative to the "upper" surface so if its upside down won't the "lift" be downwards? Am i being stupid in saying this?:confused:
Can anybody tell me how aircraft fly up side down? I'm an under grad aero student and can't see how aircraft do. Can any aircraft theoretically fly up side down?:smile:
