Why Does a Gyroscope's Spin Axis Maintain Its Direction?

Actually i understand the second part, just not the rotational inertia bit

Geodetic and Frame-Dragging Effects on Gyroscope Axis of Rotation

How does axis of rotation of a gyroscope alter from the geodetic and framedragging effects... and why is the axis pointing in a constant direction in the first place?

Why Does a Gyroscope's Spin Axis Maintain Its Direction?

In GPB's experimental conditions, a negligible amount of precession takes place. So in terms of rotational inertia, why does the spin axis of a gyroscopes remain pointing in the same direction? Also, why would changes in space-time cause the axis to change? Thanks

Convservation of momentum if one object rolls.

can you combine an equation with linear and angular momentum or do you have to do it independently? e.g in the case of a flow of water causing a ball to roll

Convservation of momentum if one object rolls.

If 2 molecules collide, m1u1+m2u2 = m1v1+m2v2. However let's say the object hit rolls. How would that factor be dealt with in terms of momentum

Understanding the Nature of Free Vortices

Thanks very much i can integrate from there. Just wondering in a vortex is the speed of the water rotating the same at any depth in the vortex?

Why Is Finding the Odd Word Out Challenging?

Here are a selection of questions in the practice oxford written test. I still do not understand the mechanism to work out the answers to this type of question. Can anyone help me out? which is the odd word out and why? a) gun, boy, pay, rob, sin, new b)mail, dine, annoy, asset, sinned...

Calculating Force and Angular Momentum in Rolling Mechanics Experiment

hmm can i assume that the rotation energy + kinetic energy of the ball is equal to the kinetic energy of the water?

Calculating Force and Angular Momentum in Rolling Mechanics Experiment

Actually that was dumb i can work out the force needed to roll the ball. The problem is just how to translate that into the angular momentum of the water

Understanding the Nature of Free Vortices

Iam having some trouble understanding the nature of free vortexs, with the internet and library being extremely scarce in answers. My understanding is that the angular momentum of the water causes a centripetal force to push the water outwards leaving a cavity in the middle. I understand that at...

Calculating Force and Angular Momentum in Rolling Mechanics Experiment

The experiment consists of a magnetic stirrer and a marble in a beaker of water. When the magnetic stirrer is turned on a vortex is formed and the marble rolls along the edge of the beaker. If the speed of the marble is known, is it possible to work out the force required to roll the marble at a...
