Schools Choosing a potential major for college?
I'm currently at crossroads about what field I should head into for university. I'd appreciate any advice about what would be a good direction to head into based on my interests and goals. If I had to name my favorite subject, it would most likely be either mathematics or physics. I've pursued...- rkum99

Engineering Node/Mesh Analysis of a Circuit
So, in the mesh 2 equation, the 10V source is a drop because the current goes through it from + to -. Why would the signs change in the mesh 1 equations, however? In the mesh 3 equation, I subtract the voltage source as the current goes from - to +. Wouldn't it be the same in the mesh 1...- rkum99

Engineering Node/Mesh Analysis of a Circuit
My bad, I hoped that having everything in one place would make it simpler. Thank you for letting me know. I will relist everything here: Homework Statement Diagram: The goal is to determine the power through the 20V voltage source. Homework Equations KCL and KVL: Currents entering a node...- rkum99

Engineering Node/Mesh Analysis of a Circuit
Homework Statement The following is a link to the problem diagram and my work: http://imgur.com/a/9tppH The goal is to determine the power through the 20V voltage source. Homework Equations KCL and KVL: Currents entering a node sum to zero. Voltage drops around a loop sum to zero. The...- rkum99

Increasing current drawn in Arduino Motor Shield
Whoops, looks like all the links I provided didn't show up when I made the post. Hopefully this works: Motors: http://www.banebots.com/product/M3-RS380-72.html Gearbox (Used with each Motor): http://www.banebots.com/product/P60S-5-3.html Motor Shield: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1438...- rkum99

Increasing current drawn in Arduino Motor Shield
I am currently using the Adafruit Motor Shield in conjunction with an Arduino Motor Shield to control two 7.2V DC Motors. The DC Motors are being powered by a 7.2V, 3000 mAh Nimh battery. When the two DC Motors are being powered in parallel directly by the Nimh battery, they are able to move...- rkum99

Can you help decipher this circuit and calculate the voltage?
Homework Statement [/B] https://wcl.unr.edu/bbcswebdav/pid-634340-dt-content-rid-2875167_1/xid-2875167_1 So I am given the above image, and I am told to calculate the voltage in the circuit. Homework Equations V = IR R_net = (1/R_1 + 1/R_2 + ... + 1/R_n)^-1 for parallel resistors 3. The...- rkum99

Maximization of motor speed/torque
As of now, my actual vehicle layout is somewhat set in stone, but if you have any suggestions, those are appreciated as well. I am currently using a 9'' by 5'' aluminum sheet to mount all the parts. I am using Banebots wheels with 2-7/8'' inch diameter as seen in the following link...- rkum99

Maximization of motor speed/torque
So my goal is to try and move the vehicle across 8 m in less than 2 seconds, but less than 3 seconds is acceptable as well. The vehicle must then stop at some designated point after the 8 m, to a precision of less that 1 cm. To control the motors, I'm using the adafruit motor shield, which...- rkum99

Maximization of motor speed/torque
Well, the only limit I have on the battery is its price, haha. As defined in the rules: "The vehicle may use no more than 6 individual cells (labelled 1.5V or less each), a single 9V battery, or a single batery pack (labeled 7.2 V or less) during the run time" What would be the highest mA-hr...- rkum99

Maximization of motor speed/torque
For an upcoming competition, I must construct a vehicle that is capable of traveling at high speeds and can travel precise predetermined distances. While any electrical components may be used, any and all circuitry can only be powered by a single 9V battery. I am currently using a rather...- rkum99

Generating power with a propeller
I'm not sure if I fully understand the lever arm mechanism. How exactly does the lever arm connect to the DC motor, and how does the motor actually rotate in its casing - and why would it rotate? I'd like to try and keep the motor in a PVC pipe frame work anyway, so using a lever arm to measure...- rkum99

Generating power with a propeller
Yes, in an ideal situation I would simply copy the set up that is to be used at the competition, and test my turbine with that. Unfortunately, the event guidelines I was provided with was incredibly vague in describing their setup. I have no idea about the direction of the air flow, or air speed...- rkum99

Generating power with a propeller
For this competition, you basically have to create CDs with some sort of fin attachment. This CD will then be mounted on a generator and placed in front of the fan. The goal is to try and design a propeller such that it will generate the greatest amount of power in the presence of the fan's air...- rkum99
