How Do You Use Long Division to Simplify (1 - u)/(1 + u)?
Hm, I kind of get it, but at the same time I'm still pretty lost and feel like I'd never be able to figure it out on my own. I looked up polynomial long division and tried doing it the way the first example here is done, and got an answer of -1 with remainder 2. When doing it that way, is it...- solomon684

How Do You Use Long Division to Simplify (1 - u)/(1 + u)?
Homework Statement The problem is about solving the homogenous differential equation (x2 + y2)dx + (x2 - xy)dy = 0 using substitution, in this case y=ux. This is the example they go through in the textbook (A First Course in Differentia Equations with Modeling Applications, 9th Edition, Zill...- solomon684

Setting up Integrals to find mass and center of mass
Ok thank you, that was very helpful, makes a lot of sense now. As for the exercise, I am kind of struggling with that. We have not done anything in class where it's bounded by 4 functions, I think the most we have done was 1 or maybe 2 functions that are in 3 dimensions and then the rest are...- solomon684

Setting up Integrals to find mass and center of mass
Ok so in this example drawing horizontal lines gets you from the parabola to the line each time, where as vertical would go from parabola to parabola at some points, so because of that you integrate in the order dxdy right? Now let's say it was bounded by to parabolas, or is in 3 dimensions...- solomon684

Setting up Integrals to find mass and center of mass
Homework Statement Find the mass and center of mass of the lamina that occupies the region D and has the given density function ρ. D is bounded by the parabola x=y2 and the line y = x - 2; ρ(x, y)=3Homework Equations m=\int\intD ρ(x, y) dA The Attempt at a Solution Basically I just need help...- solomon684

Engineering Help Analyzing Circuit Using Ideal Diode Method
Ohhhhh okay I see now. In the first example (diagram (b)) the anode was 10V while the cathode was 3V, so it would be forward bias with current flowing through, so the diode would be on, meaning the assumption that it is off is incorrect. Just a question though, is there ever a time when the...- solomon684

Engineering Help Analyzing Circuit Using Ideal Diode Method
Ok got it, that makes much more sense, but then why is vD2 -3V? Wouldn't it be 3V - 10V = -7V? And then what is it that makes that assumption correct? I cannot seem to figure this portion out. It seems like the negative voltage would make the current go left, turning on D2 and making the...- solomon684

Engineering Help Analyzing Circuit Using Ideal Diode Method
Hey guys, I see this website a lot when lot when looking for help so I made an account since I cannot find help with this problem anywhere. Homework Statement Use the ideal diode model to analyze the circuit below (circuit (a) in the attachment). Start by assuming D1 is off and D2 is on...- solomon684
