Solving 4x for sin^-1(1) between -pi and pi

Homework Statement Find all angles x, -pi <= x <= pi which satisfy sin4x = 1Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution Solved x, ie 4x = sin^-1(1) 4x = pi/2 x = pi/8 Sine is positive for angles in quadrants one and two, so there's one other angle which is in quadrant two? x = pi - pi/8 x...

Solve Algebra Question: Simplifying Radical Expressions

Hmm, I see that, but don't know how you get to sqrt(x)+sqrt(a) Nonetheless I've figured out the way that makes most sense to me. Simply factor x-a which equals (sqrt(x)-sqrt(a))(sqrt(x)+sqrt(a)) (difference of two squares) then cancel (sqrt(x)-sqrt(a))

Solve Algebra Question: Simplifying Radical Expressions

Thanks for that. I did try that but couldn't get sqrt(x) + sqrt(a) as the denominator. I can see that it's correct numerically though. Is that a general algebraic rule or can you get to it algebraically?

Solve Algebra Question: Simplifying Radical Expressions

    Hi all I've been stumped on a basic question. Show that: \frac{{\sqrt x - \sqrt a }}{{x - a}} = \frac{1}{{\sqrt x + \sqrt a }} I've tried removing the radical sign, bringing the denominator up, etc... Help?
