What Will Be Humanity's Key Milestones Over the Next 100 Billion Years?

Unfortunately memory doesn't equate consciousness, anyone remember the 6th day? Otherwise teleporting would be pretty neat.

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

K thanks, btw, to anyone reading this The energy given if you use E = qVo is in Joules if you do the multiplication not Electron volts! I just wasted half an hour trying to understand why my values were so low, when infact i thought i had 4.0 * 10^-20 eV i had 4.0 * 10^-20 Joules which makes...

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

More than 100% off, but then again this book may not be using pure cesium thus the work function i used may have been wrong. Note i wasn't using the work function from the Ek value i got, but rather what is the accepted work function for pure cesium.

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

So it is indeed the Ek max? I was wondering why it's so low, when if i manually enter in values for the hf - W, i get something higher. Perhaps the cesium wasn't pure. (And i had just drawn a circuit diagram lol) http://brontopixel.com/upload_image/86d59094d613aa1b00adf964b2d02f5c.jpg

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

Well the title of the lab is analyzing the photoelectric effect... There is a collector and a piece of cesium inside a phototube, so I'm not sure what to deduce.

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

What i mean is, i have several sources indicated that qVo is the work, however experimentally this doesn't match up, and i have several sources that indicate that qVo is the maximum kinetic energy. My book says that Ekmax = qVo Im only asking because a max kinetic energy of a fraction of an...

Does eVo Equal Maximum Kinetic Energy in the Photoelectric Effect?

Is eVo = Max Ek? Vo being the cutoff potential at a given frequency and e being the elementary charge? And ofcourse Ek is max kinetic energy of ejected electrons. Also is the unit for this equation in electron volts?

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

Well then I'm sorry for dragging this along. I was too sure of my logic to check my assumptions. Thanks for the replies. BTW, this should be stickied so no more like these are made, i was aware of similar topics but none of them addressed all the issues.

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

So its just called rest mass for the heck of it? I mean honestly, I've been ranting on here for hours... Why in the world would they call something at rest when its still moving in some way.

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

Well the only assumption i really made was that rest mass referred to a particle that was absolutely still. If this particle were to be vibrating, or doing any sort of movement, i'd understand. Assuming p = h/lambda seems pretty correct to me unless someone wants to suggest otherwise?

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

What I'm trying to understand is how with the Equation E^2 = m^2c^4 + p^2c^4 assuming p = h/lambda A particle at rest (by rest i assume there is absolutely no movement of any kind vibration or otherwise) doesn't have an infinite amount of energy when the wavelength of the particle can be...

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

I was corrected, i understood that, I'm speaking now of a completely different matter! This is not fiction this is logic. If a particle is at rest, it is NOT moving. If a particle cannot reach a state of 0 movement, then it cannot have a 0 movement state mass. So unless my understanding of the...

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

Did you read the entire thread before responding? We are speaking about particles, photons or not. In either case I'm not claiming that zero movement exists I'm just saying that if zero movement doesn't exist, rest mass doesn't exist. Wavelength = "the distance, measured in the direction of...

Can matter be completely converted to energy as suggested by E=mc2?

In this case the amplitude is 0. Zero amplitude = Zero wavelength = Zero movement.. thus there is no difference between Particle A: Oscillating Infinitely Wavelength of Zero Particle B: Infinite Wavelength Frequency of Zero Both have a constant position in 3d space, thus both are not moving...
