Physics vs. EE: Which Requires More Work and Commitment?

I have to agree with leright. As an EE and math double major switching to physics and math double major, I find that there seems to be more work in the EE curriculum. The reason that caused me to decide to switch however, was the ridiculous amount of assuming things to be true and general lack...

What Is the Direction of Tension in a String?

Right. And if all else fails, split your system into parts and draw your FDB with your axes included.

What Is the Direction of Tension in a String?

Recall that at any point on a string under tension, there will be a force acting up and another force acting down the string. Furthermore, recall that these forces must be equal.

MATLAB Solving MATLAB Questions: Quick Answer to Formatting Output

I am pretty new to MATLAB and am having a problem formatting my output. I have two questions: 1. How do I display the sign of a number in front of it similar to showpos in C++? For example, if a = 72, I want to display '+72', but if a = -72, I do not want to display '+-72'. 2. Is there...

How Do You Calculate the Horizontal Component and Flight Time of a Baseball?

Recall what you have learned about vectors. Motion in two dimensions has two components. I suggest drawing a picture of the motion of the ball; it may help you see the relationship between the forces acting on it and its path through space.

Calculating Time and Forces in Juggling Inside a Cone

My first thought was to use energy, but there is so much to take into account. I think just looking at its motion in the curved path should get you close. I was able to come up with an equation for time. Let me know what you come up with and we can compare.

Topic of Paper - What should it be?

If you want to do a biography, I suggest Richard Feynman. He was a very interesting person, as well as a great physicist, and I think he would make for a colorful subject.

    Angular Momentum: Clarifying a Problem

You are correct in your calculations, but not in your units. The unit for rotational inertia is kg*m^2, which is what your math would indicate. Also, the radians are generally not included in the units for angular momentum, so you should come up with an answer in the form kg*m^2/s.

    Momentum-Intuitive feeling required

One can very easily develop an understanding of momentum through observation. Think about a car driving along at 60 mph running into a fly. Now think about a car driving along at the same speed running into a semi moving at the same speed. Think of some other scenarios along this line. The...

Is k Ever Negative in Hooke's Law?

You need to think about the orientation of your coordinate axes.

    Problem understanding divergence test

I am sorry, but you are going to need to be a little more specific about your problem. Recall from your Calculus courses that there a number of different divergence/convergence tests for infinite series.

    Right. 3/(4do) = 1 so do = .75

How Does Potential Drop Equal Supplied Voltage in a Resistance-Free Circuit?

I do not know a lot of E&M theory as I am a humble EE, but I think if you look at it in terms of Ohm's Law it might make more sense mathematically. Ohm's Law is I = V/R. Since R = 0 across the resistance-free wire, I = infinity. Thus, voltage across the circuit can mathematically be...

Solving a Motion Problem in 2 Dimensions

Think of this in terms of vectors. I think the question is asking for the man's down-river vecocity to be 0 and his velocity across the river to be a maximum. Let us know if you need further assistance.

How Does Potential Drop Equal Supplied Voltage in a Resistance-Free Circuit?

Yes, if you need further explanation look up Kirchoff's Voltage Law.
