why are the eigenvectors in a square matrix which is diagonalised (only has numbers in the M_jj elements), just each column of the matrix? And why are the eigenvalues the actual number in each column. I can understand if its diagonal, the matrix consists of linearly indepednent therefore...

Unfortunaltly, I can’t get those books at my library (and I certainly can't afford them!). I tried googling for information but to no avail. It was basically a side comment on my lecture notes which i didn't really undestand, so even a one line explanation would be useful. Well, if it isn’t...

its a postulate - its consistent with what happens in nature. its not proovable is it?

S=kln(Omega) is an empirical fact. But the 2nd law, both clausiius and Kelvins laws taken together, is just a statement that no engine can be 100% efficient.. its pretty easy to proove this: by a compostie system with a carnot and kelvin violator (i think)??
