Homework Statement
A man (mass 80kg) reaches the edge of a 20m cliff in his car (mass 1600kg) at a speed of 150km/hr. He drives off the edge without a change in velocity.
Calculate the speed at which he enters the water if he ejects from his car at 50km/yr just as the car reaches the water?
ok just say you have these values:
s=1.3m
u=0ms
v=?
a=10
t=0.5099
Now these values represent the vertical part of a vector..
now to work out velocity it uses a formula, v=s/t, = 1.3/0.5099 = 2.55ms... which is incorrect.. .
but using this formula.. v^2=u^2 + 2as...
Homework Statement
A car collides with a brick wall and comes to rest.
A parcel which was on top of the roof at the time becomes detached. It is initially traveling horizontally and it strikes the ground a distance of 12m from the point where it left the car. The parcel is initially 1.5 m above...
im currently studying redox in chemistry and I am really enjoying it so far.
I am just a little bit confused about one section of it, that is that i cannot understand how to work out the product in the 1/2 equations ..
e.g Fe2+ forms Fe3+.. but why does it form this.. i know iron is a...
ok I've tried the approach with the constant acceleration... this time i used the average velocity example of 18.89 ms-1 .. then i calculated the displacement using the s=ut+1/2at2 .. then i worked out the work and the power came to 133816.76 Watts... very close to the final answer!
yes I've realized my error... he accelerates in 4 seconds to that speed, and i was using the D=ST formula which is incorrect!.. as his speed isn't constant for a period of time...
now i understand why the energy method is more accurate..
values:
m=1500kg
a=25ms-2
v=27.78ms-1
t=4
P=mv
=1500 x 27.78
= 41670 SN
Impulse = (delta) P
f x 4 = 41670
F = 10417.5 N
W = FS
= 10417.5 x 111.12
= 1157592.16 J
P = w/t
= 1157592.16/4
= 289398.15 Watts
the correct answer is:
144675.9 Watts...
i am currently momentum, work, energy and power in physics and i am currently confused in a few concepts.
