    Solve Quadratic Equation: y^2 - 12y + 32 = 0

i don't think you can, it is obvious. if you actually want the logics of thinking its like this: we want to express the quadratic as (y-a)(y-b), now a*b = 32 and a + b = 12 so try all the integers you can think of, you'll find 8 and 4 does.

errr... The St Petersburgs problem, curse the Bernoullis.

Maths Study & Motivation: Your Thoughts

I think this quality in one's personality aids one's potentials in math greatly. Math is best learned alone, most of the times anyway. My schooling years was filled with constant skipping of classes and getting told i would fail math because i am not a serious student.

What would be proof that God exists?

It really depends on what you define god is. If one claims the originator of everything is god or everything is a part of god, then god must exist. But this type of god is not the one that we associate with religiously, its just a general philosophical definition of everything or origin...

Understanding Acid Strength: HSO3- vs H2SO3

other way around then your statement is true. I am assuming you know why if that is the case. other way around again. your conceptual idea is wrong. more electronegativity of X means the bond will be more ionic, ie ionization is more favoured. therefore meaning more ionization occurs...

Find Ka, Kb & Verify Kw Relation

simple answer would be yes, its true. :) "a" stands for acid and "b" stands for base dissociation. to find Ka or Kb simply times H2O by Kc, ie Kc*[H2O].

Some basic chemistry problems i have troube with

    1) "Lets say you have a .00035 L volume of .25 M Pb(NO2). What are the moles of Pb2+?" if that is the question then i think it wants you to find the number of moles instead of molarity. moles of Lead II Nitrite = volumn x molarity = .00035 x .25 = 8.75 x 10^-5 But since the question...

Water Purification: Harmful Chemicals & Possibilities

depends on what you define as harmful. apparently the really fine micromembrane filters available today can obtain near absolute pure water... although this is never used for tape water unless people died drinking the water by normal filteration.

    Solving Problems: Combinations and Permutations

whats the logics behind this? why do you assume its a selection first then after the solution is done minus it off and say its not a valid selection? what is that? where can i learn this stuff from? elementary probability?

    Solving Problems: Combinations and Permutations

I got this two problems, I can't figure them out... A bookshelf contains m different books and n copies of each. How many different selections can be made from them? and In how many different ways can four letters be posted in four envelopes so that no one receives the correct letter?
