Cause of interference pattern in the Michelson Interferometer.

The point that I am not getting is why are the fringes circular. Like in Newton's rings I know that the thickness of air is constant over concentric circles causing circular rings. I just can't understand what causes this in Michelson's.

Cause of interference pattern in the Michelson Interferometer.

The books say that interference happens basically between the light waves from the two mirrors. But it seems to me that the path difference between the pairs remains constant for all the waves (as long as both the mirrors are perpendicular to each other). So why do circular rings form? How does...

Mechanics Question: Block on inclined plane

@PhantomJay Thanks for the post. But, what I understood(after getting the reply from ideasrule) is: (i)after getting to the end, the body will again move up because of the spring force, unless friction holds it in place (ii)I forgot that the unbalanced force will work to decrease the...

Block sliding down an inclined plane and gravity

If I have understood the above correctly, some initial force must have been provided before it moved. That would have imparted the velocity, and the unbalanced force will decelerate it.

Mechanics Question: Block on inclined plane

Yes. I was silly to ignore that inertia thing. Thanks. The pulley: the diagram given shows the spring and pulley on a horizontal surface: <Spring>--------<Pulley> ----------------------- \ \ ......\ \ ........\ <Block> .......\ That's how it looks in the diagram.

Mechanics Question: Block on inclined plane

Homework Statement The situation given in the following question doesn't look possible to me. A 1kg block situated on a rough incline is connected to a spring of spring constant 100 N/m. The block is released from rest with the spring in the unstretched position. The block moves 10cm down...
