Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the topic of 3D volumetric strain and volume change, specifically addressing a question related to calculations and attempted solutions provided by a participant. The scope includes technical reasoning and feedback on mathematical accuracy.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks assistance with a problem related to 3D volumetric strain and volume change, referencing an attached document with their attempt at a solution.
  • Another participant suggests that the attempted solution appears correct but questions the underlying problem.
  • A participant expresses uncertainty, mentioning feedback received that emphasizes the importance of using correct values in calculations.
  • Another participant identifies potential errors in the calculation of areas for some stresses.
  • A request is made for clarification on which axis contains the incorrect area calculations.
  • It is noted that the areas are incorrect for the y and z axes.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have not reached a consensus on the correctness of the calculations, as there are indications of errors and differing interpretations of the feedback received.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include potential missing assumptions regarding the values used in calculations and the specific definitions of the axes involved in the problem.

The attempted solution looks correct. What's the problem?

I am not entirely sure i was just given feedback which said. Ensure that you are using the correct values in calculations

Yeah. You calculated the areas for some of the stresses incorrectly.

Could you tell me which axis where the area is incorrect
