Physics About physics summer research for undergraduates

AI Thread Summary
A junior student from China is seeking summer research opportunities in the U.S. in quantum information science, but faces scheduling conflicts since their summer vacation begins at the end of June, while most programs start earlier. The discussion highlights the necessity of obtaining a visa to work in the U.S., noting that due to geopolitical tensions, securing student visas for high-level subjects like Physics is challenging, particularly for short durations like three months. The conversation also touches on the potential for summer exchange programs between universities, questioning how such programs manage visa acquisition.

Hilo, friends!
I am a junior student in China. I am getting to learn some about quantum information science (QIS). Next summer, I am planning to go to USA for summer research experience. But there is something wrong with the date. My summer vocation comes at the end of June exactly. However summer research programs in USA start much earlier. So, do you guys know there are some programs suitable for my time? Or, without this kind of program, can I have other kind of opportunities of participating in research in USA with money supplied. I do not have to get much money, Enough is good!

Thanks~~~

To work in the US you need a visa. As you pointed out, the timescales don't match yours, and now you have another problem.

Thus, I need a way out~

It's not going to happen for just a summer research program. Due to the unfortunate geopolitical situation between the US and China, student visas for high-level subjects like Physics are few and far in between, and for only ~3 months you'll just be denied, especially if you haven't even been accepted into a program yet.

Thank you very much~
Then what about the exchange programmes in summer between universities, how could they obtain visa?

For some background, I'm currently a 3rd year physics major with an astro specialization studying in Canada, and as undergraduates are want to do I'm regularly evaluating my career prospects down the road. I also plan on pursuing grad school when I've completed my degree. It might just be my anxiety acting up a little, but with a lot of the government funding drying up for public science research broadly in the US, the 'industry' everyone keeps talking about when questions like this are...
Hello Physics Forums Community, I'm hoping to draw upon the community's collective wisdom regarding a procedural challenge that I believe many independent researchers face. I'm working on a self-contained theoretical framework from a foundational starting point. The work touches upon concepts from general relativity, quantum foundations, and cosmology, attempting to connect them based on a single relational principle. It has now reached a point, where some parameter free values seemingly...
