acceleration and displacement question?

a turtle is moving with a constant acceleration along a straight ditch. a person starts a stopwatch as the turtle passes a fence post and notes that it takes him 10s to reach a pine tree 10m farther along a ditch. as the turtle passes the pine tree, his speed is 1.2m/s.

how far was he from the fence post when he started from rest??

we know this equation:
V^2 = V(initial)^2 + 2a(displacement)

V initial = 1.2-10a

I think you can solve the rest of the problem. There might be a nicer solution to this, but this is the best I got.
 


That's the wrong formula. You are not given a value for acceleration. You are given a value for time.
 


1.2^2 = (1.2-10a)^2 + 20a

Solve for a.
