Are aero engineering and Aerospace engineering the same?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the question of whether aerospace engineering and aeronautical engineering are the same field, exploring the distinctions and similarities between them.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses confusion about the relationship between aero engineering and aerospace engineering.
  • Another participant suggests that the requirements for both fields are likely the same, implying a similarity.
  • A third participant asserts that they are the same, noting that the main difference lies in specialization areas: aeronautics for air vehicles and astronautics for space vehicles.
  • A fourth participant acknowledges their confusion after receiving clarification.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

While some participants propose that the two fields are essentially the same with minor differences in specialization, there is no explicit consensus on this point, leaving room for further discussion.

I would think so. Just look at the requirements of both and you'll see they're probably the same.

Yes they are the same. The only real "difference" is what you specialize in. Either Aeronautics (Air Vehicles) or Astronautics (Space Vehicles).

Ok thanks. I was a little confused with that.
